Juan is going for a horseback ride early in the morning with
Colibri. They spot Monica, who has the same idea. Juan tells her she
can join them or he can hook up the coach and they can take her
wherever she wants ..
Monica keeps insisting that he leave CR,but admits now she sees him
more 'human', sensitive to her pleas and Renato's friendship. Juan
is in a bad mood (for a change??) and starts bragging about Aimee
preferring him to Renato ahd that she has asked him to stay. he
tells Monica that he has decided to take the job offered to him by
Renato as Administrator of CR.
She gets mad, starts calling him and Aimee several things, including
'monsters' for planning something that will hurt Renato and screw up
Renato's life. Juan shows her Colibri's scars from the abuse he used
to take from his previous owners. Juan uses him to show her what his
life as a kid was like, to show her why his attitude, why noone can
ask people like him to sacrifice themselves for anyone else. He
tries to make her realize why he is full of so much hate and
violence.
'They taught me how to hate, to hit before being hit, to kill so I
don't get killed and if I hadn't learned those hard lessons then, I
would not be alive in front of you now. Don't expect anything from
me, don't expect for me to fall for your pleas and tears. I don't
know what pity is.'
He leaves, leaving Colibri behind for her to face the rude realities
of life. She sees a lot of Juan in Colibri. His pain, his
suffering... Colibri asks her if she's the new 'ama'. She says no.
Juan finally gets the coach hooked and brings it over to give her
the ride. "I do it because it doesn't bother me and it doesn't cost
anything. What doesn't cost anything can be given easily.'
he brags that he always speaks with the truth. She says.. not
always. 'You said there is no pity in your heart.. and there is..
you said there is no love,.. and there is .. Juan de Dios'... 'you
are capable of helping a woman who bothers you and rescue a boy from
the hell that you once had to endure ...'
Juan admits that he sees himself in Colibri.and that he's doing the
same things for Colibri that someone else did for him sometime back
(see him as a human being).
She wonders if he means Renato.. or Renato's dad Don Francisco. Juan
doesn't want to talk about Renato's father.
Juan walks into Pedro Noel who finally arrived at CR. PN wants to
know why Juan reacted that way at his house regarding the wedding
invitation. Juan does not want to answer directly. here comes Aimee
(looking more seductive than ever). Juan loses some of his skin
tone, and PN notices this and gets enraged at Juan, yelling at him
to leave CR immediately.
PN goes on to tell everyone at CR (one at a time) that he came to
take care of Juan's requests for some legal papers to buy some land,
build on a house by the Cabo del Diablo, fishing boats, etc. Aimee
tells PN that Renato needs Juan with him at R. PN says Juan is too
independent, unwilling to take orders and that he is not the right
man for the job.
Juan insists that he is not leaving. 'It feels good to rule where
you have been lower than the lowest servant'.
In comes Renato. Renato asks PN to be the legal advisor of CR again.
PN tells Renato how he feels about Juan being CR Administrator.
Meanwhile, Aimee walks over to Juan and starts teasing him and
calling his attention. Juan is p___ o___. PN and Renato see this
closeness between A and J. She wants to talk but Juan ignores her.
Then he unleashes a series of insults about her chosing the life of
riches and luxury to her promises to him. It is fair that she has to
pay with her body in exchange for the commodities and 'name'. She'll
have to do without him. He does not want to even look at her again,
and leaves mad under the rainstorm.
Renato and Aimee have an argument about each other's change in
attitude during the last couple of days. She tells him, among other
insanities, that she's had it with the last name D"Autremont and the
house and CR. He is upset that she has ignored and offended him
several times in the last day or so. They both appologize to each
other shortly thereafter, but you can tell Renato forgives but does
not forget.
Don Noel goes to visit Da. Sofia. She wants him to control JDD. He
says Juan can live in his own house (they would have to make him
one) within CR so they would not have to see him so often, even if
he stays for a long term.
Monica goes to meet Juan. Juan tells her that Aimee will go with him
if he goes through with his intention to run away with her. Juan
keeps insulting her 'celestial paste/dough' and comparing her with
Aimee (the b___). She's about to slap him and he stops her cold. 'De
caballero no tengo mas que la ropa'. Juan tells her that he knows
that she loves Renato and she would go as far as anything, even
killing him, to protect Renato. But he also notes that she is
beautiful, specially when she is mad like now.
Monica and Da. Cata. talk about Monica sacrificing herself for
Aimee, Renato and their last name's reputation. Da. Cata. is
thankful for all her giving of herself for them. Monica reinforces
into her mind that this is the reason why she is enduring so much
suffering and pain, for her mother and their last name. She tells
her mother that Juan loves Aimee so much, he feels like a caged
tiger, and that he is only defending himself and she cannot put a
name to what she is feeling for him, definitely not fear, something
else...(Hummm...).
Renato is talking to Monica and confesses to her that even though he
believes in Juan in spite of what everyone else thinks and everyone
else wanting him to leave. But Renato wants to fulfill his father's
last wish of him and Juan caring about each other like brothers,
becoming friends. Renato still feels some resentment for Aimee's
insults to his family and home. He tells Monica that if Aimee
betrayed him that would be the end of themselves and what they know
as CR. (I interpreted this as that he would kill her and himself and
destroy CR). But that is not true. She is the mostt dignified and
adorable lady (really.......).
Juan keeps insisting that Aimee run away with him. She still wants
to stay and have both him and Renato. He thinks that what she wants
is too disgusting and dirty, falling too low. He is enraged. He
squeezes her and she moans a complaint. he feels like killing her
but he is afraid that he will love and want her even more in death.
She keeps promising him she will go with him, just not right now.
She tells him that she's afraid she will die if they try. She won't
die as long as he is alive..
Juan wants to go now, not to wait until they 'fix' everything so it
is safe. That's not his style. He wants to risk it all, put it all
on the line and face the dangers and unknowns.
Monica spots Juan and Aimee. Juan leaves. Aimee tells Monica she
will make Juan go away if Monica returns to the convent. Monica says
I will leave when Juan leaves CR. Finally Monica makes Aimee admit
that she is not willing to live without riches OR pleasure if she's
able to have both within reach as right now.
Renato comes over and Aimee tries to put a play to make Monica look
like she is going mad. Aimee tells Renato that Monica is leaving CR
and going back to her mothers. Monica says she is staying so Aimee
starts making Renato believe that Monica is in love because that
would be the only explanation to her acting so irrational. Renato
tells Monica that it must be a very lucky guy, better be good enough
for her. Renato tells Monica that he cares for her like a brother,
so he must approve the lucky guy. Later, after Monica leaves, Aimee
puts the finishing touch by suggesting it might be Juan. Renato is
enraged. "That's absurd!"
