Duke of Earl

Once upon a time, there was an old shoemaker named Earl. Earl made the best shoes in the whole town, and made quite a bit of money too. That was until the shoe factory moved in to town. At first people were hesistant to buy the mass produced shoes which looked so much like everybody else's, but they eventually gave in when they realized they would be saving a few dollars here and there. Earl was very lonely because his old customers, who used to socialize at his shoeshop no longer came by, because how were they to face Earl after they had betrayed him after years of his dedicated shoemaking. Earl needed to find a new way to make a living. He decided to make horseshoes instead of people shoes. This became very difficult because the horses could not always fit inside of Earl's shop to get a fitting. One day, Earl became very frustrated as he was trying to fit a horse through the door to his shop. He became very angry and chopped off the horse's entire hoof with an axe. The enraged horse barraged through the door, tearing the shop down. Earl looked at the hoof in his hand in dismay. What had he done? He tried to weld the hoof back onto the horse, but the equestrian amputee was not willing to cooperate. The horse began to snort, and it was breathing fire and fury. Right at that moment, Earl's dog, Duke, started sniffing the hoof in Earl's hand. It smelled familiar. It smelled like dog food. Duke trampled Earl, and started chewing on the horse's missing appendage. The horse began to neigh very loudly and soon an entire stampede of horses started charging towards Earl's shop. Duke of Earl fled the scene with a piece of horse flesh hanging out of its mouth. Earl stared in disbelief at the multiplying number of horses arriving at the shop. He thought that it was the end until he saw the horses suddenly take off in the opposite direction. He saw them following Duke. Duke was heading to the direction of the shoe factory. The horses gallavanted into the factory, following Duke. The factory was torn apart. Earl resumed his position as the town shoe maker, but during the stampede, Duke was severely wounded. Earl spliced Duke and the amputee horse and created a horse-dog breed. The horse-dog breed needed no horseshoes, so for years, people bred this new species. Eventually over the years, it evolved into an armadillo, but scientists deny this fact because it cannot be explained by the laws of nature.
