Me

That's me and my, erm, imaginary friend, taken with a Logitech Webcam perched on top of my desktop.

Church: Saint John's Saint Margaret's.

It's the Anglican Church I was confirmed in. (It's a Low church, very charismatic evangelical. It's also the national Alpha Centre for outreach to non-Christians through its courses. Interested?) You'll probably find me in the Youth service at 9.15am on Sundays. I used to worship at Chapel of the Holy Spirit in Potong Pasir as a kid, until some disputes broke out between members of its congregation and my family moved to SJSM.

Current Affiliation: Raffles Junior College, Creative Arts Programme Alumni, Raffles Voices Alumni
I spend almost all of my energies in school-related things. That also translates to "Andrew doesn't have much of a life outside school".

Graduating Class of 2S03B '2001. That means I study Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Maths. I take Maths and Chem 'S' Papers, and enjoy the latter more. If you're considering what Science 'S' Papers to take in RJC, I would strongly recommend Chemistry. The Chemistry Department is superb and teachers give solid lessons.

History and Strategic Affairs Society
Too grand a name for the society I think- it spanks of elitism, especially in an Asian society. It organises the annual Raffles Model United Nations Conference. I was fortunate enough to be pulled into it in 2000 by Gabriel, and enjoyed myself thoroughly in 2000 and 2001. Model UN is a concept created by the UN; essentially, a mock international conference with ambassadors from major countries (each delegation from a different secondary school) discussing world affairs. The 2001 national costume parade was particularly intriguing, especially as it featured the most unusual of pairings- Netherlands featuring scantily clad females representing the "tourism" industry (and appropriately, an energetic dance routine to Moulin Rouge's "Lady Marmalade"), France with a bevy of tanned leggy "delegates" performing scissor-kicks, and so on. Contact the delegates themselves on what they had dared to do.

Creative Writing Club
I was most actively involved in this, organising the Writing Forum , Friendship Week Poetry Dedication, Artists' Jam, Poetry@Orchard (a reading with musical performances in Library@Orchard), and Afternoon of Poetry and Music, which ended at 6.20pm this year. Will add in more later.

Vortex
A three-buck annual science magazine published by my school. My brother and I contributed articles to it- his on the consequences of high oestrogen levels from industrial products in the environment, mine on the skepticism- the history/philosophy of science dating back to Socrates. Would you like a copy

I was also involved in Charity Squad and Club Alchemy, but didn't devote much of my time to these two (dropped out of charity squad after a year- Not because of its name!) due to work/ creative writing club commitments. I was also in Chorale for a few weeks before I got serious and gave it up. I still support it whenever I can.

Past Affiliations: Anglo-Chinese Primary School, Nanyang Primary School, Raffles Institution

Involvement: I was in the choir- Raffles Voices. Having graduated from it, I now have no qualms about admitting that one of the main reasons why I joined it was because the choir was supposed to be lenient about attending practices regularly (the primary reason was my background in singing in the Singapore Bible College Children's Choir. If you had been involved in it please contact me! I'd like to get in touch with people from it again.) Find out more.

RI Internet Club- I only got involved in it in late 1997, after finding Computer Science Club tiresome. We had a wonderful teacher-in-charge, Ms Foo Choon Lang, who offered personal tuition in any subjects we were falling back on ("Anything- english, chemistry of course, geography, anything but Higher Chinese. It's too hard") She left to work in the Ministry of Education, leaving a new teacher, Mr. Stephen Lim, to operate the club.

RI Interact Club- Run by a very capable Ms Hamidah, it spearheaded community service projects for students to be involved in. I was more active in choir in my time in RI, and usually relied on my friends to fill me on on Interact Club's latest activities.

Green Earth Operation Group- I didn't help out much in this either- apart from here and there. Ms Lian Lay Cheng (my geog teacher in Sec 4 who was responsible for pulling my batch's grades up from a low B to mostly As in 9 months) pushed for it strongly- but its scope did limit its possibilities.

Audio-Visual Unit- Zhongyong persuaded me to join it with him in Sec 2, which I did, quitting in Sec 3 due to time commitments. I guess I did learn some things, like how to operate the equipment in the lecture theatres.
