This early season goose hunt in Central Iowa was simply amazing!!  Some friend of ours had been scouting this field and called us saying the geese were in it.  It was my first hunt using my new Avery Powehunter.  The geese came into the decoys and were right on top of us.  Good shooting meant an early limit and exit from the field.
Here's the result of some quality time with Thomas and some good hunting.  Thomas and I walked a fence line on some property by Ellsworth.  My intent was to get out with Thomas to work gun safety and put up some "No Hunting" signs.  While walking along the fence, I heard some rustling and told Thomas to get ready.  The bird flushed and I made a good shot as he was going away.  Thomas said, "nice shot dad", and we went over to retreive the rooster.  Thomas picked him up out of the brush and stuffed him in my vest.  We put up the signs and hurried home to tell Mom all about it.  It was a great experience to share with him and I hope to have many more.
On our annual trip to western Nebraska, I finally bagged a large mule deer.  The saddle in the valley in the background of the picture is where this guy came from.  As he made his way down the bottom of the draw (working from background to foreground), I was moving with him along the right-hand ridgeline.  He almost escaped our pursuit, but with my last round I was able to bring him down.
