Wisdom Saying of Jesus Centering Prayer is based on the wisdom saying of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount: “...When you pray, go to your inner room, close the door and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.” Matthew 6.6 (New American Bible) It is also inspired by writings of major contributors to the Christian contemplative heritage including John Cassian, the anonymous author of The Cloud of Unknowing, Francis de Sales, Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Thérèse of Lisieux, and Thomas Merton. |

What is Centering Prayer? |
Centering Prayer is a method of prayer that prepares us to receive the gift of contemplation by helping us become more and more sensitive to the Holy Spirit within us. It consists of responding to the Spirit of Christ by consenting to God's presence and action within with open minds and hearts without words, without images - sitting in the presence of God. If you would like a full explanation of the Centering Prayer method and its guidelines, as well as news of retreats, programs and contacts, nationally and internationally, please visit the international office's website, www.contemplativeoutreach.org |
All Centering Prayer workshops and events are open to people of all faiths. When we sit in this profound silence, we are all one. |
