BAKED ZITI

1 lb ziti

1 c ricotta cheese

4 c Italian tomato sauce

1 lb ground beef

1 lb mozzarella cheese cubed into 1/2" pieces

1/4 c parmesan cheese


OPTIONAL: When you saute the meat you may add 1 onion, sliced, & 2 cloves of garlic, minced.

Saute the meat & drain thoroughly.

Combine 2 c tomato sauce with ricotta, parmesan and 3/4 of the cubed mozzarella cheese.

Cook & drain the ziti & add to the mixture.

Mix thoroughly.

Add the browned & drained meat. Mix.

Grease a 13"x9" glass pan. Pour mixture into pan.

Place remaining mozzarella cheese in rows on top of mixture.

OVEN: 350º

BAKE: 30 minutes, uncovered

Heat the remaining 2 c of tomato sauce & spoon over each portion.

YIELD: approx. 6 servings

NOTE: You may use more ricotta if desired.

This freezes fairly well, so you can prepare it in two 9" square pans ~ eat one now and freeze the other!
