Minor thoughts while touring -- Just west of Buffalo, in search of a quiet room near the highway, we stopped at a Red Roof Inn. They'd left the light on for us. We were thinking $29.95, and there was a Bob Evan’s next door that would do for both dinner and breakfast. Well, it had been a while since we’d stayed at a Red Roof. They hadn’t been thinking $29.95 for a long time. Besides, we hit the Saturday night of the big Hamburg (?) Dog Show, so we were facing peak rates. The Red Roof allows pets, but at a price. We chatted for a while with the night managers, the price went down a little, so we settled in. As it turned out, we didn’t see many dogs, except a whole Volvo wagonload of German Shepherds. We concluded that the smaller, fancier breeds were probably staying up the road at the Holiday Inn. We suspected that Bichons and other lap dogs were spending the night in their masters' beds after being smuggled into the downtown Hyatt in soft-sided doggie-luggage-carriers.
