ANDY POLFLIET
ETERNAL BREATH
Tell me something about the recent ETERNAL BREATH line up and where the band are from?

The guitar players Marino Decaluwé and Andy(that's me) Polfliet, who started the band. Than we have Nicolas Bruggeman(bassist) also a member from the very beginning.

We have our vocalist Pedro Lobbens and our latest member Vincent Debaveye(drums), who joined the band after Piet Goethals left the ranks. The rehearsal room is in Wielsbeke(west side of Belgium) and we're all from that same area of the country.

It all started many years ago with a band called DEATH ANOS i guess...  So what's happened through all these years?

Now, in fact you're wrong! It was Marino and myself who started the band, together with ECTOPIA drummer  named Narre. We didn't have a bass player and a vocalist in the beginning.

So we ask Nicolas and Nico Sagaert who played in Death Anos to make the band complete. In fact they played in Eternal Breath / Death Anos and that was the only link between both bands.

Before Eternal Breath there was GARDENS OF GRIEF and was a great success to me. The band split up, because of the musical differences between the members or  something else?

GARDENS OF GRIEF was the new name of DEATH ANOS.There was some line-up changes and so they renamed Death Anos into Gardens Of Grief. At that time,Marino joined the ranks. After a while, the band decided to split up .

Some musical differences led to an Eternal Breath split but the real reason why Gardens Of Grief quit, well i don't know exactly so far!
Three years later, Marino, Nicolas and myself restarted Eternal Breath as well.

A new drummer was found by the name of Piet Goethals and a bit later we found a vocalist named Pedro Lobbens. After the recordings of our CD demo SYMPHONY OF AGONY(april '02) Piet left the band and Vincent Debaveye(ex CHALICE) joined the band as our new drummer.

Now we've got Eternal Breath and the band is doing a great job today with their kinda Metal! Are you satisfied about the results so far?

Yeah, we're going great so far! We have a good understanding and we are trying to play better and better. Great reactions on our CD demo entitled Symphony Of Agony and now we looking forward to do some gigs.

Can you give a discribtion of your own style of Metal and is the band inspired by other bands?

I
t's a kinda technical and melodic Swedisch styled metal. It's a bit of everything. We're all inspired by some other  metal bands such as: Gamma Ray, Soilwork, In Flames, Iced Earth, Nevermore,.....As i mentioned previously..a little bit of everything!

There are many Metal bands in Belgium. Is it difficult to break through or stand tall?

It's very hard to break through, because in belgium there is no respect for bands. There are very good bands here, but it's so hard to make something out, but we keep on trying
and stand tall as well...who knows, maybe some day......

What's your favourite Belgian Metal band through the years and why?

I can't really name some bands but some older metal bands as Killer,Ostrogoth and Crossfire did some reunion gigs and sounds fantastic after all those years. Than you had Channel Zero, but i can't say they are my favorit band. There are many other bands,to many to mention them all!

What about the Eternal Breath releases so far, any plans for a forthcoming full length album?

Like i said before, we have make a demo CD Symphony Of Agony in 2002. This is our second demo, our first entitled "Empire Of The Sun" released in'96.

We will like to do a full lenght album, but first of all we wanna play some gigs and after all if there is some record company interested, we can work somethin out. So let's hope!!

Through the years you did gigs with Occult, Tankard, Ancient Rites, God Dethroned and many others! Any concerts planned during the next couple of months?

Yeah! We play at MUNDO'S FIRST METAL CONCOURS in Zottegem(B) on the 29 of march 2003! Also a gig is planned at JD DEN AST in Heule(B) together with ARTRACH and SERGINE on the 19th of april 2003! We also confirmed at a small open air festival in Zwevegem(B) on the 3th of may 2003!

OK Andy, i wish you and the rest of the ETERNAL BREATH members all the best wity everything you do! Maybe some last remarks to all the MTI readers?
