~ Engine-251 is a 2003 Fire Engine/Tender (water tanker)/Rescue Truck.

~ Engine-251 was purchased with the help of a $162,000 Federal Emergency Management Act (FEMA) grant.

~ Engine-251 carries a collapsible water tank and portable pump, which can be used to pump water from the collapsible tank or a lake or river.

~ Engine-251 is equipped with a top mount water gun which can shoot water about one city block away. 

~This truck goes out on almost any call. It is equipped with air bags for lifting heavy objects and a new set of jaws (aka: Jaws of Life) for extricating victims in auto accidents. Both air bags and jaws were purchased using a Federal Emergency Management Act (FEMA) grant.

FIRE DEPARTMENT FACTS

~ Douglas County Fire Protection District #5 covers over 500 miles of agricultural fields and brush land.

~ Douglas County Fire Protection District #5 has two ambulances.

~ Douglas County Fire Protection District # 5 has two fire engines. One is a 1960's city pumper and the other is a 2003 Fire Engine/Tender (water tanker)/Rescue Truck. 

~ Douglas County Fire Protection District # 5 has approximately 15 fire fighting vehicles ranging in size and variation. Most are now equipped with foam for chemical and structure fires.

~ Douglas County Fire Protection District # 5 has two Rescue vehicles including the new 2003 Fire Engine. The other is equipped with a water tank and can be used as a brush truck. Both are equipped with extrication equipment for motor vehicle accidents and other emergencies requiring rescues. 

~ Douglas County Fire Protection District # 5 has a very fast response time for a volunteer department. Fire trucks and ambulances have been seen rolling out of the fire hall within two minutes of a call going out......in the middle of the night!

~ Douglas County Fire Protection District #5 has received another Federal Emergency Management Act (FEMA) grant in the amount of $72,000. This grant will be used to purchase new air packs as well as a filling station. A defibrillator was also acquired by the district at no cost though a State AED grant.
