A bit about the Manchester Lamb Club & Raising of Club Lambs: Membership is open to any person currently entering the 5th through 11th grade & lives within the area that covers the Manchester School District. Manchester, Michigan. USA. Application/Contracts for membership are available at the Manchester High & Middle Schools October-November, and are due in by January 1st. We hold monthly meetings starting in February and go through July. In these meetings we learn how to care for and show our club lambs, work on educational exhibits for viewing at the fair, and share ideas to improve our community education & involvement. We also learn the financial end of raising lambs, for one of our club requirements is that each member must hand in a 'set of records'. All Lambs are purchased through one breeder, approximately 90 days prior to the Manchester Fair. These lambs are treated for overeating, tetanus & wormed, then, tagged and weighed, on the day of lamb pick-up. At the fair, usually Wednesday morning, lambs and members are judged on the quality of the lamb for its meat, as well as showmanship of each member, and how they handle their lambs. The outcome of this event will determine the placement for each lamb in the Auction. Every year the Manchester Fair's Auction is usually on Thursday evening starting at 8:00 pm the week of the fair. This year it will be on Friday at the same time. (As the fair draws nearer you can look in the Annual Manchester Community Fair Hand Book for any other changes.) We ask you come early (any time during fair week will be ok) and walk through the tents to view animals and meet members. For first time buyers you will need to register at this time, near the auction stand. You will be given a buyers card with a number to hold up if you choose to bid on any animals during the auction. If you purchase an animal you will be handed a buyer's slip that you will need to fill out and hand back in by the end of the Auction. Good luck with your purchases.
