| Jimmy Lin, The Playful Fish 'JDSJ' just had its opening ceremony in a holiday resort in Heng Dian. In the serial, Xiao Yuer is acted by Jimmy Lin. In real life, he's also like the character, impish, likes having fun and playful. But who would expect that this playful 'fish' would turn so serious when it comes to work. Q: What do you understand about Jiang Xiao Yu? A: Actually, Xiao Yuer had been portrayed by many, like Andy Lau, Tony Leung, etc. I've watched them. I feel that my personality and Jiang Xiao Yu's is quite similar. Therefore, this time I would add in more new ideas, actions and some usual habits to portray him. Most importantly, this is my first serial, and to me, this is quite a big attempt. As previously is mainly movies. This time after filming a serial, the director often feel that the speed is quite slow, hoping that I can increase my pace, since this is different from movie. For acting, in a movie, you can try out all your different styles and expressions but not in a serial. There's time limit and every chain of scenes is very rush, therefore now, I'm trying to adapt. Q: Xiao Yuer seems very fierce towards girls, how do you see to that? A: He felt that girls are very troublesome, needs to be looked after. Because Xiao Yuer is a very curious person, likes to go to many places on his own. He felt that girls would tie him down. Actually, in his heart, he wants these girls to surround by his side. He wants this kind of feeling but he also don't want to be tied down, so towards them, there's love and hate. Q:Towards work and personal hobby, how do you arrange them? A: I hope to put work as first priority, because I feel that if I do my work well, others can go on smoothly. Q: Can I put it this way. For your work, you will give up on your personal desires and hopes temporarily. Such as now, you're only able to sleep 3 to 4 hours a day, isn't life like that a bit...cruel? A: Why? Why do you think it's cruel? (Jimmy asked with surprise) I don't find it so, I feel happy to be working. Although it's very tough, when I'm able to complete a 4 months job within 2 months, I can do many other things, isn't this better? Q: What's your motivation in work? A: Maybe it's my own interest. Of course other than that, there's also the support from my fans. Their enthusiasm makes me want to produce more works, more different things for them which they would also like. So these are the two main reasons. Q: Will your next step be focusing on singing or acting? A: I think on both, I'll be focusing on both sides. Q: Is there a new album this year? A: Yes, during this August. My album would include the theme song of 'JDSJ' sang by me. Q: Can you reveal the title? A: It's still not decided. Q: Lately is there any unforgettable things you wish to share with your fans? A: So far is all the filmings for the serial and I feel that it's quite a tough job. Before this, I just completed a Thai movie 'Red Word', right after that is 'JDSJ'. In this serial, I like this role, Xiao Yuer very much. During this time period, I've totally gone into the character, everyday feeling happy and impish like him. I want to thank every fan for their support, although filming is not easy, I still hope to produce many new things to satisfy their requests, so got to work hard la. I often feel that sleeping is a waste of time, of course, this is my personal opinion. Q: We know that you set up a photo studio workshop at the age of 18 and your hobby is photography, so can you tell us, if you are going to release your own pictorial about your lifestyle, how do you plan in doing it? A: Starting from getting up from bed, or even from when I go to bed. First, take a photo when I get up with my hair all messy, how I look when I'm brushing my teeth, washing my face.......I feel that letting others see this would be more practical. Because when everyone usually see me, I'm already well made-up, with my hair and everything nice and tidy. If I'm clad in a singlet, just finished washing up with my hair all wet, it'll be more natural, more real! |
| Jimmy Shooting A Fire Scene So as to increase viewership, 'JDSJ' lead actor, Jimmy Lin had to soak in water and walk into fire. Sacrificing his sleeping time left with only 2-3 hours a day. Even Jimmy's 2 personal assistants also fell ill, making Jimmy's father and manager feel heartache for the 3 of them. Starring in a serial for the first time, Jimmy had to face the stress of viewership and tolerate working day and night. Recently, there's a scene where Jimmy trespass into 'Mu Rong Jiu's' ice training room and almost got trapped in a fire she set. So as to make the effect more realistic, the director chose to use glue and paraffin to bring out the best smoking effects. Standing within it, Jimmy was smoked until his eyes almost can't keep open and breathing in all those thick smoke almost suffocated him but he still had to tolerate and continue acting. Jimmy said, "At first, I thought that acting in a serial is going to be relaxing, didn't expect that I have to be suffocated by smoke, really very tough!" This is his first time shooting this fire scene but talking about fire, Jimmy felt a lingering fear. Actually, when he was in kindergarten, he lost his home to a fire when the plug of an electrical appliance wasn't removed after use, led to a short circuit and caused a fire. So his father had to bring the whole family and stayed in a rented unit. With a family of 5, they had to squeeze on a single large bed. After that a few times, his father brought him to check on the badly burnt house. Jimmy would feel sad and cried very loudly. After experiencing such personal and painful encounter, Jimmy is very clear about fire preventive measures. |
| July 1999, in Zhe Jiang, Heng Dian, with temperatures more than 40 degree celsius. Jimmy Lin and Alec Su had to put on layers of costume, wearing the wigs and filmed continuously for 10 over hours. The people watching them were almost fainting from the heat, but the filming still have to continue. Jimmy Worked Till 2800hrs For Xiao Yuer Jimmy Lin loves car racing is what everyone knows. Every 2 months, there will be a race in Taiwan and Jimmy would participate in almost every event. The best result he got was 2nd. This time as he had to film 'JDSJ', he had to give up on the race. With this, Jimmy beaming his trademark smile, said, "Work is more important!" As they need to rush in filming, the time of the camera crew is very tight. At the doorstep of their lodgings is a small blackboard, stating the time schedule of the day. From morning 7am, starting with make-up till 4am the next day, there's work for Xiao Yuer. Everyone often joked, "Today will have to work till 2800hrs again." In many peoples' mind, Jimmy should portray as Hua Wu Que. Maybe because when compared to Alec Su, Jimmy is more good-looking and looks more like a person of literary. Jimmy denied and said, "I feel that I'm more suitable for the role of Xiao Yuer than Hua Wu Que as Xiao Yuer and I are very similar. Lively, active and kind-hearted." Jimmy felt that Xiao Yuer has a great sense of curiosity. Although he grew up in 'Villain's Village' and has an impish side of him, he is also very optimistic and loyal and is an important role in the whole show. Tony Leung's portrayal of Xiao Yuer had left a very deep impression in viewers. Jimmy said he had saw the serial before and felt that Tong Leung had acted very well. But this time, his performance would be different and he is very confident. After returning from his army stint not long ago, Jimmy has clearly shown that he is more serious and mature than before. He said that being in the army for 2 years, he had time to sit quietly and think, gaining a lot from there. Starting out for so many years, his fans had also grew up. If he still continue his style like when he was still below 20, it would be really childish. It seems that Jimmy's task now is to tranform himself from a boy to a man. | Jimmy's Filming Diary 26/5/1999 This is the 2nd time I'm meeting the cast of 'Jue Dai Shuang Jiao'. Previously in the the press conference, I realised other than Alec Su whom I had a good working experience with at the time when I was still serving national service, it's my first time working with all the other cast members. Inside me, there's some looking forward to, since most of them are experienced drama actors/actresses and I'm worried of filming my first drama serial. But I believe I'm able to work happily with everyone, create some new sparks and also look forward to myself in having an exciting performance. Travelling for one whole day, we finally reached our destination - Heng Dian. Maybe many people haven't heard of this place before. It's not unusual if you haven't heard of it. This is a small place located quite a distance from Hang Zhou, really hard to find. To be exact, Heng Dian is a small town of Dong Yang city. In future, I would need to take a 4-hour car transport to reach here. Frankly speaking, I'm feeling very tired. Now as I'm writing this diary, it's already midnight. Everyone is dragging their tired body back into their room, waiting for the arrival of the next day. 27/5/1999 Today is the redoing of the costumes and make-up. Seeing the crew workers I'm going to get along with in future, I'm feeling quite excited. Although in the next 2 months, I may be in the misery of rush acting and hardships is inevitable, I'm still looking forward to it. Especially when I heard that this time, in the filming for 'JDSJ', the camera work is the same as movie filming where a single scene is used, I felt more relieved. If it's using 3 cameras at the same time, I'm worried that I would delay the process. Can't help it, because I've never had the experience of 3 cameras filming at the same time. Tomorrow, I will be acting alongside with Vivien Chen. Better sleep early, being physically well then will I be able to face tomorrow's challenge. 1/6/1999 'JDSJ' has been filming for 4 days already. Filming under the hot sun is really not something enjoyable. Especially for period dramas. Seeing the other actors with their thick and heavy costumes, I felt more fortunate in my own costume. These 2 to 3 days, everyone is working hard trying to grobe for their feel of their role. Filming in the night is tougher, because there's a lot of mosquitoes. Moreover, filming from morning to night. It's even more tiring than working in the day. Film Opening Section On the day of the formal opening of 'JDSJ' filming works, almost all the cast members are present. Due to the request from the media, every actors/actresses had to pose. Many kinds of poses, be it cool, cunning, humorous, comical. Anyway, who is more stiking, who would attract the media's attention to take their photos. As I'm lively and active by nature, when I wasn't taking photos, Hou Bing Ying who acted as 'Mu Rong Jiu' and I were playing finger-guessing game. While we were playing and laughing like naive children, we weren't careful and a photographer caught us on film. When this photo is release in the magazines, don't be mistaken that that is one of the scenes in 'JDSJ'. Media Interview Section While 'JDSJ' was filming in China, there's definitely many funny happenings. When we're not filming, my fellow collegues and I would be chatting, joking or play around, and even did relaxing exercises together. When I was interviewed by the Chinese reporters, the question about the food in China really gave me a headache. Everytime when I thought of the food preparations by the cooks of some hotels there, I can't help showing 'funny faces'. I really can't adapt to the food when filming in China, thus lost quite a lot of weight. Outdoor Filming Section When filming outdoor, as long as I'm free, I would look for others to chat. Only when I'm not feeling well sometimes, then I would sit down and rest for a while. But when it's my turn to act, I will make sure that I'm filled with vigour and makes the atmosphere in the film set more relaxed. Sometimes, I would also do some very comical and weird expressions to amuse the other cast members. Especially Alec Su, he simply loves to sleep. I like to joke with him until he can't stop laughing. Of course, he's also willing to let me joke around with him. Reading till here, everyone would understand that the rumour that 'Xiao Yuer' and 'Hua Wu Que' can't get along is not true and is just made up. I always hope that this friend of mine, 'Hua Wu Que' would be more cheerful. Later, I'm going to tease him again. Indoor Filming Section \ Here, I would like to introduce to everyone Xiao Yuer and Tie Xin Lan's bed scene! Please don't be mistaken, this bedroom scene in the serial 'occurred by mistake'. Frankly speaking, Vivien Chen and I are under the same managing company. Personally, we're good friends therefore when we're filming this scene, the other crew members watching at the side can't stop laughing. At first, when some of my fans know that I'm going to film this scene, they were against it, afraid that I would lose my clean image. Maybe because everyone is very concern for me, as this is my very first serial, so how can I shoot this kind of exposing 'bed' scene? During the actual filming, I'm actually very engrossed! One reporter described that at that time, my expression in my eyes seems to tell everyone, "After filming, who will be responsible for my exerted performance?" Special Feelings Section When filming 'JDSJ', almost every crew member are having the same feeling. That is to make 'JDSJ' the viewership champion. Everyone is working hard to make things perfect. 'Huan Zhu Ge Ge' (My Fair Princess) has found a stable place in viewers' hearts, but we believe 'JDSJ' will be able to create a new miracle. Here, I'd like to disclose one person. His feelings would surely be different from ours. He is Alec Su. The reason is simple as 'HZGG' is lead acted by him. Everyone is hoping to use 'JDSJ' to challenge 'HZGG', would he be willing to? No matter what, 'HZGG' is Alec's successful serial. Not to mention, Alec is also very engrossed in filming 'JDSJ', and he is a very professional actor. If 'JDSJ' can top the viewership, it would surely be another representative work of his. He and I would be very honoured. I just want to say that every member in this production has worked very hard. No matter what, this is my very first serial and I need every viewer's support. Let 'Xiao Yuer' defeat 'Wu Ah Ge'! Haha! |

| Funny Happenings When Jimmy and Alec were asked if there were rumours or funny happenings, both of them denied about the rumours but about the funny stuffs, they can go on and on. Alec said that Jimmy often said that if he don't have enough sleep, he would keep laughing. There was once when they were filming at 4-5am, maybe Jimmy didn't had enough sleep again and often laugh, causing them having to retake many times. Jimmy said that Alec would often turn his Hi-fi very loudly in his room which is just beside Jimmy's and sometimes even sang along. Other than that, Jimmy said that every time after work, he's most afraid of meeting Theresa Lee. Because she would often request him or others to go jogging with her, but after filming, everyone is already very tired, and don't have the strength to go jogging. So everytime, when he sees Theresa, he would find a place to hide. |
| Alec and Jimmy Has No Ill Feelings Currently filming for an important ending scene, Alec and Jimmy smilingly said that 'rumours' are just for the promotion. As the show is completed, the truth will unveil. Though both of them can't be said to be close buddies, at least from 2 unfamiliar people, they have become friends. Alec said that after knowing Jimmy, he found him very intelligent, a very fun-loving person. Especially being a car fanatic. "Previously, I thought of buying a 2nd hand car and Jimmy shared with me a lot of informations. Concerning all those technical stuffs, Jimmy knows them very thoroughly." He said for instance, Jimmy knows all the functions in the mobile phone. He can even change the ringtone to the theme song of 'JDSJ' and even appear a picture of 'Xiao Yuer'. Also, Alec had bought a new video camera, other than knowing how to use it to film, he wasn't sure about the other functions but Jimmy is able to demostrate and explain the functions. Wanting them to compare their differences, both of the were not sure but the crew workers can bring out lots of examples. Like when they had to rush scenes, there's little time for them to sleep, Alec would usually grab some breaks to sleep. When not in the scene, he speaks with little energy. Whereas for Jimmy, the one who is always looking for people to chat with is him, even though each day he can only sleep for 2 hours. Jimmy's character is easily high while Alec would seem more quiet. |

| Jimmy and Alec Su Join Hands To Break Rumours With Jimmy, Alec Su, Theresa Lee, Hsiao Chiang and many other Taiwan and Hong Kong actors and actresses, it's going to be the last week until the last scene to be filmed. Alec Su and Jimmy, these 2 little heavenly kings are acting as twins for the first time in this serial, but outside spreading the rumour that 'brothers not getting along' had been neverending. About this news, Alec Su is very fed up with it and is not bothered to explain further. Jimmy also said helplessly, "While filming, both of us don't even have sufficient time to sleep, where is there the time to quarrel?" Alec Su and Jimmy were known as the 'Four Little Heavenly Kings' of Taiwan and their age difference is only 1 year where Alec is one year older, and they are both good-looking. These made them able to act as twins but also brought along some rumours that they don't get along like disagreement for the parts in the scenes, fighting to sing the theme song or both fans fighting with one another when they went to watch them acting. When they were told of the rumours, Alec and Jimmy felt that they're too absurb. Alec said that he's only concern on his acting, the rest needs no explanation. As he will be busy with other serials after this, so he had no time to sing for 'JDSJ'. Jimmy had to film for the indoor and outdoor groups of scenes and had to record for his album. He was so busy that he had lost a lot of weight. Although he is now very tan after working under the hot sun but his dark rings under his eyes are even darker. Everyday, he can only snatch time to catch some sleep. Though both are very tired with all the filming, seeing the good response from the preview, they are hoping that it would produce outstanding result. |

| Jimmy And Theresa Dived To Feed Fishes 'Taipei Underwater Aquarium' in Shi Lin was filled with crowds. The reason is because Jimmy and Theresa who were starring in 'JDSJ' were going down into the water for a fish feeding show. Though in the aquarium, it was filled with fans, even the fishes are trying to get near 'Xiao Yuer'. From a vote conducted by the aquarium, Jimmy and Theresa got the most votes for the most compatible couple in the serial. The organisers specially invited them, along with their fans to visit the underwater aquarium, and will also personally go into the water to do a fish-feeding performance. The both of them having diving licence, after putting on their diving suits and all the necessary equipment, had a great time with the marine life. Seeing the 2 stars with food in their hands, all the fishes swam up towards them. Through the glass, fans were able to see Jimmy and Theresa, in a while showing a victory sign, in a while changing positions and postures, having fun with the fishes. Both of them are like sea prince and mermaid. Having plenty of diving experiences. Jimmy said with a smile, "When I just started diving with little experiences, seeing a sting ray, I would excitedly swim towards them, and never crossed my mind that their tails are poisonous. If got stung, it would be very dangerous. There's also once, after I went into the water then realising that there's problems with my oxygen tank. Fortunately, my group member was beside me, so we shared the oxygen and it was a close shave. The underwater world is really quiet and beautiful, very different from land." Asked what is his favourite fish, Jimmy replied, "Although sharks are fierce, I still like sharks most." Theresa who's very active in sports, even thought of feeding in the little sharks tank, but as it was too dangerous, she had to dismiss that thought. But she expressed smilingly that she likes dolphins most as the dolphins in Hong Kong Ocean Park are smart and adorable. | Playful Xiao Yuer First time filming a serial, Jimmy had found himself a challenging role - Xiao Yuer. Xiao Yuer had always been Gu Long's novels classic character, with his reputation of intelligence and bringing others headache at the mention of his name. Will this kind of role be unsuitable for Jimmy who is trying to wear off his boyish impression? "Of course not!" Jimmy felt that he likes this role very much. For example, Xiao Yuer knows the art of disguise and able to use it to flee easily, also there's 2 sides of him. What others see is just the happy-go- lucky side of him but when he's alone, he would think of his own parents, his background. When he's doing something, there's 2 voices in him; one say right, another saying wrong, one say turn left and the other say turn right. About portraying this role, Jimmy felt that it is very enjoyable especially the way Xiao Yuer acts and speaks, which made Jimmy very interested in this character. Like when Xiao Yuer made his first appearance, he was lying on the grass, chewing a grass stalk in his mouth. When he saw a villain hastily running in, Xiao Yuer felt like making fun of him and later turned the whole village upside down. In the end, they couldn't stand him any longer and 'invited' him to leave. It can be said that Xiao Yuer's personality is more outstanding in the serial. He doesn't think in the normal way when handling problems, therefore the result would always be unexpected. This serial has been filming for one and the half months, during which, Jimmy still haven't went back to Taiwan. Usually, after waking up early in the morning would be filming. Sometimes, when he's sleeping, he would even dream that he's still working. At busy times, he even had to work for 20 over hours a day, and can only sleep for one hour. Jimmy who takes pride in his work often had to film overnight. Moreover, within the film set is very hot. Jimmy himself is afraid of heat, but his costume is thick and woolly, in addition, it's 2 layers. Usually, the inner layer was always wet. Therefore, although his work has been going on smoothly but tough, Jimmy and the other crew workers expressed that they would do their best to make this serial. When asked about Xiao Yuer and Hua Wu Que's martial arts skills, Jimmy said frankly, "Of course Hua Wu Que is stronger. He had learnt it since young while I only learn how to annoy and harm others. But I'm very quick and able to act according to circumstances, while Hua Wu Que is more righteous. Therefore, everytime when we fight, I'm able to escape successfully. I admit that my skills is more lousy." Saying till here, Jimmy himself can't help laughing. Between the interview, we talked about the anti-piracy activity in Hong Kong, and told Jimmy that as his 'Before Dawn Breaks' album was selling very well, and had let the pirated businesses made quite a pile. Concerning this, he can only sigh and said, "Every of my album is compiled with many peoples' hardwork and ideas. If it's really made into pirated copies, we can't do anything, just hope that this kind of situation won't happen too much." He wouldn't want to trouble himself with this. He would do all he can in his music and just want to bring out the best for his fans, only hoping that they would buy his album because they like his songs and not because of him alone. Talking about his army days, Jimmy's mood was completely relaxed. He expressed that he likes the life in the army. "I'm quite used to it. Everyone is treated equally, doing the same things. The feeling of everyone with no hair is great! Hahaha.... I missed army life, very simple. Morning is jogging, physical training, it's all standard. Don't need to think what song am I going to sing tomorrow, memorise scripts. After released from the army, I felt more mature. Those 2 years plays an important role in my life. I've finally grown up, begin to dismiss the thinkings of a student and decide for the future. This made me experience the pleasure of life." After completing 'JDSJ', Jimmy would be preparing for his music album, which would include the theme song of the serial. |
