| A true story about well-known Taiwanese wartime hero, Liao Tian Ding, whose mother was raped and tragically killed by the Japanese, vowed to fight against the Japanese. At a young age, Liao Tian Ding (Shi Xiao Long) joined the opera troupe and had saw the poor and miserable lives led by the Taiwanese commoners. He secretly steal money from the temple and gave them out to the needy, and among the poor was a young girl who was very grateful of Liao's kind act. As the Japanese were hated by the commoners, the opera troupe had a performance showing the overthrowing of the Japanese rule, however, a Chinese lackey leaked this out to the Japanese. As a result, they went to the scene and many were killed. Fortunately, Liao and his teacher (Ke Shou Liang) managed to escape. One day, when they were in town, Liao saw the poor girl whom he had helped going to be sold to the brothel and tried to save her, but he was too young and outnumbered. His teacher managed to save him in time. Soon, Liao has grown into a fine young man (Jimmy) and followed his teacher performing street acts as a form of living. But when they were doing their usual acts, a Japanese commander came to create trouble and caused chaos. His teacher saw a child trapped amid the scrambling crowd and tried to save him when he was shot and killed. Seeing his respected teacher died in front of him, Liao decided to seek revenge. He disguised as a soldier, sneaked into the army and killed the commander. After that, he was on his own and met Hong Gui (Luo Shi Feng) and became good friends. One day, Hong Gui won in a gamble and treated Liao to a brothel. There, he met the poor girl he tried to save in the past who's now a popular prostitute, Liu Wen Ying (Vivian Hsu). They fell in love and Liao decided to claim her from the brothel. Liao and Hong Gui began robbing from Japanese for the poor. When he went back to the brothel to claim Wen Ying, he found out that a Japanese top commander had already made the first move and he is now a wanted man by the Japanese. He used the disguising skills he learnt in the performing troupe to hide from the Japanese. However, he was eventually caught and died at a young age of 27. BACK |
