Macedonia is the largest area in Greece and borders with Albania, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) and Bulgaria. The climate is in general continental though coastal areas benefit from the moderating influence of the sea and can be said to have a Mediterranean climate. It is divided in the prefectures of Grevena, Kastoria, Kozani, Florina, Imathia, Thessaloniki, Kilkis, Pella, Pieria, Chalkidiki, Drama, Kavala and Serres.
