The facts about #pbg

What is #pbg?
#pbg is a channel on irc (internet relay chat)'s gamesnet network. It is a real-time chat, which means you don't have to post messages and wait for a response via a submit button, like you do in forums, you just type and hit enter. It is around a million (figure slightly exagerated) times faster than forum-based chat.

Why should I chat in #pbg?
You don't have to. It's entirely optional. #pbg is not meant as a replacement for the planetbaldursgate forum, and it is not the official planetbaldursgate irc channel either. It is a place where some people from planetbaldursgate (and occasionally other forums) hang out to participate in real-time chat. You can use irc even if you're on a dialup connection, because it does not take a lot of bandwidth. #pbg is generally newbie-friendly.

What do people in #pbg talk about?
In short : everything. Art, music, games, real-life, politics, religion, pretty much anything goes. A lot of multiplayer games are arranged through #pbg too. If you like D1/2, WC3, AOM, NWN, Freedom Force and various other games, then chances are you can find a few people in #pbg who want to play, at some point or other.

Are you (Llandaryn) in charge there?
I like to think so. However, it's not easy being the future-omnipotent holy divine god-ruler of the world, so I let my minions run #pbg. In truth, no, I'm not in charge. Aragoth is the creator of #pbg. He's an Op (sort of a like a moderator, but with less pay) there. Garfield, Rogge and Buck are also Ops. You may notice that ChanServ is also an Op (Ops are the people with @ in front of their name) however ChanServ is just a script/bot and not an actual person. Insulting ChanServ is actively encouraged. (Of course, I still pull all the strings around there, although nobody will admit it. You know what they say.... behind every great man Op is an even greater woman :P )

What are the rules in #pbg?
There are only 3 rules. Rule 1 - Do not attack, hurt or offend other people in #pbg. Sometimes mistakes are made, we hurt other people, and the Ops understand this. Usually disagreements between people blow over fairly quickly. If you are in the the wrong, or even just want to make amends, then apologise. Usually calling somebody a name won't get you punished, unless you do it all the time and they do not like it. For this you will be kicked as a warning. If you disturb the peace any further you will be banned for a period of time left to the discretion of the Ops. Usually it is not permanant. Rule 2 - Do not impersonate other people. This means using the nick of somebody else in #pbg, and speaking as them.. whether jokingly or seriously, you will be kicked immediately for this. You can rejoin the channel under your own name. Rule 3 - You must pay homage to me (Pharaoh Llandy) and acknowledge my greatness with gifts. Cheques are acceptable gifts. I just made this rule up, so I hope it sits well with the Ops. If it doesn't.... well... you can still pay homage to me anyway.
