The Inquisitor

Here's the differences I found in the SFC & CBC broadcasts of this episode. I don't have the tease included in the time totals, because my CBC copy seems to be missing most of it. This does not included opening and closing credits.

Act 1:

SFC

After Phileas asks if Rebecca can't go make herself a pot of tea or something, she continues to throw the darts, causing him to go on:

Phileas: Or read a book? Or go bullfighting? But for God's sake, Rebecca please, could you just give me some peace?

Joins CBC version with Rebecca: Well, I don't know what to do with holidays

- - - - -

SFC:

After the scene with Amateratsu and Kajimori, when it shifts to the Aurora:

Passepartout: And the gorilla said, "No, a banana." (laughs)

Rebecca: Oh, come on, Phileas. A walk by the Seine will do you good. And we'll get to see Jules.

Phileas: A walk in Hyde Park is what I'd hoped for, thank you very much.

- - - - -

After Rebecca says: If she ever managed to get her head out of her books

CBC cuts to Jules in Paris, reading aloud:

As they drifted away into the sunset above the majestic plains of Africa, he was left to marvel at his magnificent emerald creation.
When the altitude dropped suddenly, his hair stood on end. But the tingling sensation was not from the balloon's air but from her warm breath on his neck.
And at that moment, he knew he could never turn back.

After Rebecca says: If she ever managed to get her head out of her books

SFC cuts to a shot of the moon through a window, pulling back to show Amaterstsu looking up at it, then over at her Grandfather before settling back against her pillow with a book.

Both versions cut to the young man being dragged down the hall

SFC:

After the porter exits with their basket, there's a look between Amateratsu & her grandfather as she leaves the room and another shot of Kajimori after the door closes

CBC joins as it cuts to Amateratsu sitting on the bench just before Rebecca joins her.

Act 2:

CBC has about 10 seconds more of Passepartout looking around the marketplace.

CBC

After Passepartout is given the package to take to Phileas, they cut to a scene of Jules and Amateratsu coming out of the museum

Amateratsu: Water is the gods of nature's most blessed element. As she said, in the beginning there was the fountain. It seems that water is also the source of the future.

Jules: Well, the steam engine was a ground breaking invention, but I don't think the future will be powered by it.

Amateratsu: Water is sacred.

Jules: Well, I just mean another element.

Amateratsu: Fire perhaps.

Jules: Perhaps. Or lightning.

Amateratsu: Oh, yes. Imagine if such power were harnessed as, as man has harnessed the power of water.

Jules: I believe it will be one day.

Amateratsu: I believe you speak the truth, Jules Verne. We have been given many wonderous gifts. We need but see them.

SFC picks up here at the truffle booth.

Act 3:

CBC:

After Passepartout apologizes to Jules for the steam's whistle waking him, there's a brief glimpse of Amateratsu stirring liquid in a beaker.

Cuts to Phileas & Rebecca.

There's a creaking noise as a door opens.

Rebecca: What about honor?

Phileas: What?

Rebecca: Or is it a psychological flaw?

Phileas: What?

Rebecca: Well, doors in ancient churches don't tend to open by themselves.

Phileas: No.

Rebecca: So what is it about us that makes us go through self-opening doors into total blackness without a clue what's behind? Phileas & Rebecca look at each other, and in unison state: Psychological flaw.

As they move forward.

And it cuts to Amateratsu pouring the liquid into the small vial.

SFC takes a commercial break after the bad guys grab Amateratsu & Jules and leave Passepartout in the street.

While CBC has a short scene of Phileas and Rebecca riding thru the night.

Phileas: I certainly hope that Verne has made this a very long dinner indeed.

Rebecca: Yes.
