Rivers we have survived

Batiscan

Beautiful Quebec country with many raps and falls (and train tracks) here. We counted over 120 drops concentrated in the Portes d'enfer (Gates of Hell) section. This river is usually a rafting trip, except in August. We perfected our canoe-over-canoe rescues- thanks guys. Campsites are not good but the train ride from the take-out to the put-in, is. Learn to speak french, though.

Ashuapmushuan

Another Quebec jewel. Our all-time (3X) fave for dumping (especially at the 600cms level),amazing summer(200-1600cms) volumes, long, growing raps
(holy s..t) with big (I can't I can't) rollers and holes (help help) at the end-help, its dark; where's the campsite-and one or two(?) portages. Highlights include Chaudiere Chute (a set of four HUGE drops over one km) perfect for hiking, blueberries and camping but NOT running.

Dumoine

Another bit of fun. These raps didn't scare us too much (welllll)-thanks Hap for your opinions-except for Grand Chute--don't miss the portage, you dummies. Fly in ($$$) or hire the three hour shuttle (it's faster).

Noire

Yes,we're hooked on french whitewater. This Giant sand box scared us (especially Club Capsize)(the dummies live up to their name) even less (never mind Toilet Bowl) and the entertainment (dump dump) was great. And we won the steep portage (crash test engineering) award. Another fly-in not to do--ask us, we now know the secret. Very twisty and duney-including the campsites-and great fun even for the rookies.
