The Witchblade is an ancient artifact of tremendous power, who is wielded each generation by a woman that the Witchblade chooses worthy. The 'blade itself is sentient and can vary its shape to create armour or blades, and can create blots of fire and electricity, and forms a telepathic link with its bearer and past bearers.
The 'blade appears to be controlled by three gems set into a bio-organic substrate. There is a gem missing and damaged, the red one, which seems to make the 'blade even less controlable by the wielder. Its moods swins from extreme violence and docility.
Ever since Sara was a child she wanted to follow in her father's steps and become a cop. Even the after the death of her father who was a model officer of the NYPD, didn't deter her from her goal. She became a detective in record time, even using unorthdox and often reckless methods to come to her goal.
All her plans for the future changed when an underground investigation of a criminal gathering at the Rialto Theatre turned in to a bloodbath, with her partner Yee being discovered. They took him and wanteed to use him as a target but Sara not being able to see her partner taken down jumped in front of the shot and mortaly wounded herself. Sara's life was spared and changed forever when the mystical gauntlet The Witchblade attached itself to her and regenerated her. Since that fateful day. Sara consideres herself blessed sometimes as well as cursed with the new found power she now wields.
Nottingham's past is shrouded in mystery. All that is known about this enigamtic assassin is that he used to live in Britian working for a freelance assassin. Has proved himself useful for the Japanese Yakuza and has finally fallen in to the hands of Kenneth Irons.
Ian is a man who knows how to hide his feelings. He keeps hidden all the signs of emotion when committing his cruel and flamboyant assassinations. When Nottingham betrayed Irons as Cauty Tower his mentor didn't see the attack coming...though still managed to better the young assassin. Nottingham has since been seen to have been forgiven for his betrayal.

Sara recently had to heal Jake with tthe power of the Witchblade, commanding it to 'make him stronger'; qujte what it has done is unknown, even though Jake seems far more confident in himself and his work, even to the point of Sara finally telling him about the Witchblade itself.

As a police cheif, Joe has worked on the force for most of his adult life but he made his mistake when he was but a young rookieon the force. He stumbledin on a mysterious cult and witnessed a HUMAN sacrifice! Joe was forced in to complicity when the life of his wife was threatened. He now serves Irons in a far more discreet manner than Ian Nottingham...although it seems he has just been branded with one of the Wirchblade runes.
He has always been a father to Sara since the deathof her father who was also his partner. Will he be able to betray the daughter he never had??
Julie Pezzini is the all american beautiful girl next door.
She is Sara's younger sister who wants to be a model. She is introduced in to the series when she attends the modeling school run by Kennth Irons wife. In the end Irons' wife is the Microwave murderer and is ended by the Witchblade. Julie is a small character but helps to give insight in the relationship Sara has with her family and her feelings.
