I have finally finished reading The Lord of the Rings.  WOW! What a novel! An awesome setting is plastered in your mind while you follow two hobbits to the dark place of mordor, and also watch as the realms of Gondor and Rohan unite to take their place in the War of the Ring. In the first amazingly written book, you begin to learn a great deal more of the place where everyone's knees go weak at the mention of it, Mordor. I'll say it again, Mordor....(***shiver***).

In this 3 part series, we read of Frodo's un-willing heroic adventure across the plains of Middle-Earth...to his doom or not to his doom.  He bears the one evil object which the enemy desires most.  But he has to keep it well and truly out of the Dark Lords hands, unless he wishes for the Dark Lord to perish and rule Middle-Earth.

You learn about Saruman's deeds, of Balrogs and Oliphaunts, and of Lembas. You are introduced to many unforgetable characters.  Being: Tom Bombadil, Strider or Aragorn, Galadriel,  Boromir, Treebeard, Shadowfax, Lady Eowyn, Lady Arwen, Grima the Wormtongue, Smeagol, Faramir and not to mention Gandalf the Grey/White.

You also learn about many places in Middle-Earth, they being:  Hobbiton (of course), Bree, Rivendell, Moria (***shiver***),  beautiful Lorien, the Anduin, Fangorn, Helm's Deep, Isengard, Falls of Rauros/Emyn Muil, the Dead Marshes, Minas Tirith and Cirith Ungol.

This brilliant book(s) has been nothing but amazing.  Next up for me is The Silmarillion!

The Hobbit
The adventures of Bilbo, the UN-ambitious hobbit.  This book has many intriguing 'chapters' or 'episodes' if you like, one is Bilbo's first conversation with Gollum, a frail 'has-been' hobbit, which consists of many riddles (this is my favourite chapter). Other parts are when you learn about trolls and sunlight, or when you learn how sneaky a burglar Bilbo actually is, the 13/14 (?) dwarves....what are all their names again? Oin, Gloin, Thorin, Thor...etc
the Battle of the Five Armies, the beautifully captured elves, and of course Bilbo's talk with Smaug the Dragon in the Lonely Mountain.  You learn much in this prologue to The Lord of the Rings about Middle-Earth, the setting where Tolkiens works are based.
This is an excellent and marvellous book, not even the word 'marvellous' describes it justly.  I doubt that any words could even contribute fully to the description of this wonderous book.  For those who haven't read The Hobbit, it is a great tale in itself, there is no need to read The Lord of the Rings afterwards, but I must warn you that it very well may tempt you into it!  It did to me, even though it was around 5 years after I read The Hobbit that I decided to read on. It finally got the better of me!
