WILLIAN COUPON
NEW WAVE  EXPO
These were my first photographs in "series", of the punk, or new wave youth. I had been to Studio 54, but now it was good to be at the Mudd Club, New York, in fall of 1978. I had asked several people to pose for me, (thinking they'd be in Life Magazine), any many from this set belonged to the night, and could be found every night at the Mudd Club. They were frivolous, reveling youth, and playfully brash. They were following a trend that began in England, but in the states it was more, in my opinion, fashion, than strictly intellectual rule-bending. However, that's not to say that it didn't have style and voice for their time. These eventually ran in American Photographer Magazine.
