BEAUTY is in the eye of the Beholder
I decided to do a photo shoot with makeup artist and designer/stylist Marla Belt allowing her to create the look. We sat down and discussed ideas before hand. It’s a wonderful feeling to give yourself over to an artist that you trust and admire. We are both big fans of Richard Sharah and the incredible looks that he did during the New Romantic period. I felt honored to be her model and enjoyed being the one in the makeup chair for a change. I have been a makeup artist for over 20 years and have many interests from fx makeup to transformational fantasy, opera and theater. I love the challenge of creating a look, beautiful or ugly? Kenny Kenny and I discussed our ideas on different looks. “I do looks that create an atmosphere, I don’t explain the look, it should speak for itself” says Kenny. I, on the other hand don’t take as much time as I like to create the look desired. We are so pressed for time. It’s wonderful when you have a situation that allows you to spend the time to create your character’s detailing. Working with Marla I learned what it is like to take the time to perfect and create something from a different perspective. I wanted to do a step by step column with Marla’s makeup but then I remembered what kenny said about explaining the look. And this Marla look speaks volumes for itself. Thank you Marla Belt & kenny Kenny.
