"They're more like guidelines, anyway"

(actually they're not, but if you follow basic netiquette, you probably don't have to worry about breaking any of them, and you can skip to rule #10)

1. Website: You must have a website! These are cyber dogs, and they can't survive on hardrives. Your site does not have to be a cyber kennel, but it must have content, including a WORKING link back to Legends (once you get a dog). Links that don't work are the same as not having a link at all. My kennel has had the same URL for over 5 years, so there's no excuse for getting it wrong. You do not have to be a member of the NCC, but if all else is equal it might help.

2. Email: You must have a WORKING email address. You must be able to receive attachments and know how to download them. These dogs are sent through email attachments; I can not help you learn how to download them. Do NOT click-and-take any of these dogs. Every Legends dog is unique and I WILL know if you have a dog you should not have.

3. Copywright: You may not alter these dogs in any way or take credit for them! I drew them. Not you. Altering their images or information does not make them yours. This also means you may not re-adopt them out to someone else. You may only resize them (if necessary). If you have a good reason why you need to alter a dog's image, you must ask me for permission. And if I say no, that's just too bad for you. Do not remove the kennel prefix from the beginning of the dog's name. My kennel prefix is Legends' NOT Legend's. Do not get this wrong. If you put your kennel name at the end of your dog's name that's your prerogative, but DO NOT register it (with any club) with your kennel name at the end. That is not the dog's official name.

4. Limits: You may only initially adopt one puppy per litter. However, once the dogs have reached adulthood (if they've been abandoned or returned by their original owner), this rule does not apply, but I may give preference to someone who does not already have a dog from that litter. Once I send you your dog, you have seven days to put it up, or it will be considered abandoned and I will take it back, no exceptions.

5. Abandonment and Repossesion: If you don't want or can't take care of your dog anymore, don't delete it! Send it back to me, I'll be happy to take it back! I also reserve the right to take my dogs back for whatever reason. If I ever can't find your site or get a hold of you, I will take the dog back. Please note that you will not necessarily be notified in the event of repossession because either your dog is not up or I can't find your site, even if we do happen to belong to the same club and you are considered "active" in that club.

6. Previous Adoptions: If you haven't yet posted a dog you adopted from me previously, you will NOT get another dog. Period.

7. Breeding: If you breed your dog, remember that Legends dogs may only produce purebred litters AND you must reserve me a puppy from every litter! And by reserve, I DO NOT mean save me the last one. I mean I want preference, at least over people who do not have reserves. If you do not give me preference, I probably won't take away your dog, but I will be severely prejudiced against you if you ever apply for another dog from me in the future. The ONE exception to this rule is if I have been noticably inactive for at least 2 weeks. I may not take a puppy every time, but I will probably keep at least one. Sometimes dogs have genetics listed in their information. Although I would love it if everyone who bred my dogs referred to their genetics, genetically correct breeding is not required in any dog club and therefore not required by me (unless specifically stated otherwise). However, if I know you breed genetically correct litters, I will be more likely to adopt to you. If you are a member of the NCC, do not breed your dog before it has a permit AND has you listed as the owner in the registry. And no matter who you are, do not breed your dog before it is even up on your page. Legends dogs are not just puppy-making machines.

8. Showing/Events: You are not required to show your dog or enter it in events. However, if you are a member of the NCC and I know you will show/event your dog (in more than just automatic shows) I will likely be more inclined to give you a dog. When filling out a form, please only put "show" in the use field if you actually intend to enter your dog in non-automatic shows. Same goes for events. Do not show/event your dog before it is up on your page and has you listed as the owner in the registry.

9. Disclaimer: Filling out the form does not guarantee you a dog. If I receive more forms than there are puppies, not everyone will get one! If you don't get a dog this time, please don't complain. I will give dogs to the best quality applications, and my standard of "quality" is the same for everyone. Sometimes it takes one or two tries for newbies to understand what I mean by a quality application, but I never give dogs to older members just for being themselves - they have to write good apps too, every time. DO NOT attempt to guilt trip me into giving you a dog. It will not work, ever.

10. Consequences: Please realize that by applying for a Legends dog, you are agreeing to all of the above rules, which form a binding contract. If you break any of the rules, you are breaching this contract, and your dog WILL be taken back. There are no excuses for not following the rules. If you claim you didn't know about a rule, I will be forced to assume you didn't even bother to read the rules, and I will still take your dog back. These rules are subject to change at any time, but in my opinion, they do not extend beyond the realm of common cyber pet sense. If ever they do, I will announce it on the NCC message board. If you agree to the rules, put "Past Shadows Dark and Deep" as the subject of your email. Applications with any other subject line will be immediately deleted. If you have adopted a dog from Legends recently, please read Rule #6 again.
