What are the expenses involved in this procedure?

The question most often asked is "will my insurance cover this"? No, I do not know of any insurance based in the United States that has covered this procedure. Laser lung metastasectomy is unavailable in the States and is not FDA approved. The cost of laser lung metastasectomy to one lung is typically 11,000 euro ($13,335 at todays exchange rate, April 3, 2006). This includes a 6,000 euro fee to the hospital for the standard 14 day stay, pre-op tests and up to as many as 28 days without additional charges. Dr. Rolle receives 4,000 euro or less for the laser resection (discuss this with Dr. Rolle), and 1,000 euro for services from the chief of anesthesiology during surgery and pain management. As of this writing it is still available to negotiate the chief of anesthesialogy's fee or to possibly utilize a staff anesthesiologist which would save you 1,000 euro. Dr. Rolle will discuss this on an individual basis when scheduling surgery with him if you ask.  It is also possible to have a private room for an additional 32 euro per night. Personally, I think a private room has it's advantages, as the standard double room has no privacy curtain, and, if you don't understand the German language it doesn't take long to become overstimulated and frustrated by your lack of understanding others or they you! It's your quiet space.
For those of you wondering if this price is ALL inclusive, it is, other than your airfare and ground transportation of course (assuming no complications). Dr. Rolle may request patients who require a transatlantic flight home refrain from flying for an extra week after discharge because of the inability for an emergency landing (should it be needed) when flying six hours over the ocean. It is possible to remain at the hospital for this additional time if no other lodging can be found. However, several pensions are nearby at an additional cost.
The hospital fee covers ALL pre-op testing, standard patient room (double occupancy), patient meals, operating room time, intensive care, medications, breathing treatments, stretch class/physical therapy if requested by Dr.Rolle, and patient laundry services.
Hospital payment must be made in euros. It can be sent via wire transfer or hand carried in the form of an international bank draft made to Fachkrankenhaus Coswig.
I would suggest that 1,000 (anesthesiology fee) of the charges be payed as cash to the hospital at discharge in case a reduced fee was negotiated: overpayment of a draft note will take a while to be returned to you.  The major portion of the fee's must be paid in full on the day of admission with the balance due on discharge.

Here is the information for wire transfer. Please reconfirm this with Frau Meissner- Patient coordinator before sending.
