Checking My Progress In History: Years 7-9
Level 1:
I can place a few events and objects in order.
I can tell parts of stories about the past.
I can find answers to some simple questions about the
past from sources of information.
Level 2:
I can place events and objects in order.
I am beginning to show knowledge and understanding of
some of the main events and people in the past
I am beginning to understand some of the reasons why
people in the past acted as they did.
I am beginning to answer questions about the past by
using sources of information. I make simple points.
Level 3:
I can recognise things which are similar and things
which are different when comparing different historical periods.
I can show knowledge and understanding of some of the
main events and people in the past.
I understand some of the reasons why important changes
took place.
I am beginning to understand that there are often
different versions of What happened in the past.
I am beginning to answer questions about the past by
using Sources of information.
My points are more detailed than Level 2.
Level 4:
I can identify changes which took place at certain
times and changes which took much longer.
Now I am beginning to understand the results of
important events and changes. Now I can show that there are different views
(interpretations) of why things happened.
lam beginning to use more than I source to find answers
to questions about the past.
My work is becoming more organised end I am using
historical dates and keywords.
Level 5:
I have more knowledge and understanding about the past
I can make links between different periods in the past.

information so that my work is becoming sensibly organised.
Level 6:
I have a lot more knowledge and understanding about the past.
I can work out why events and changes took place and
why people have had different views about past events.
When trying to answer a question about the past I can use a number of sources and decide which is the best and come to a definite conclusion about the question. I can now select information to make sure my work is set out in a clear and well organised way.
Level 7:
I can use my knowledge to analyse reasons for change.
I can explain why there are different historical views
on why things have happened.
I can work in an independent way to research a topic by
using a wide range of information and sources of evidence.
I am becoming very good at extracting evidence from
sources and combining what I
judge to be the most useful and reliable evidence so
that I can come to a conclusion
about people and events in the past.
