Black Is Back To Put People
First
----------------------
Quentin Black is again seeking to
represent the people who live and work in Adelaide's inner
north-eastern suburbs in the South Australian Parliament. back to top
In announcing his candidature, Mr Black said that, "government should
be about putting people first - not winner-take-all politics or uncaring
economic policies. "Unlike the Liberals, I will listen to the local
community and put people before politics," he said.
"I'm running for Parliament because I believe the people of Hartley
deserve a lot more than what they are getting from the Liberal
Government. The Liberals care more about economic theories
than they do about real people in our communities.
"Local people don't want fly-by-night candidates. They want to know
that the people who seek to represent them are part and parcel of the
local community. As a local resident, I am committed to the area. My
family has lived and worked here for six generations.
"Unfortunately, over the last 6 years, Hartley residents have been
dealt a raw deal by the Liberals. The closure of the Payneham
Police Station, the selling down of our public health system and
doing nothing to create real, long-lasting jobs in our community are
just tips of the iceberg.
"I am a passionate supporter of the need for strong community
services, in particular health, education, employment and training. I
am also committed to creating a safe and secure local environment for
our families and for older people," Mr Black said.
Mr Black will be re-opening his campaign office in Arthur Street
Magill early in 2000. From there, he will speak up on behalf of the
people of Hartley.
Labor needs a swing of around 0.9% to win Hartley, a far cry from the
margin at the start of the 1997 election campaign. In 1997, Mr Black
achieved aprimary swing of 7.5% and a two party preferred swing of
12.2%.
"I was overwhelmed by the level of community support for me during
the 1997 state election," Mr Black said. "That has given me the heart
to carry on.
Quentin Black is a clinical psychologist who trains clinical
psychologists at the University of SA and at Adelaide and Flinders
Universities. He has been married to Carol for fifteen years and they
have three young children.
