Red-winged Blackbird

The males are showy birds in spring when they flash the red patches on their black wings while singing.  They can often be seen at the tip of reed grass or branches of bushes in wetlands.  Their deep gurgling songs mixed with chuck sounds carry well over the water and can usually be heard can be clearly heard at quite a distance from the water’s edge.
