Golden-crowned Sparrow

This handsome looking bird with a gold cap on its crown migrates between the US southwest coast and BC, Yukon and Alaska.  Although a few are permanent residents, most Golden-crowned Sparrows are seen in Lower Mainland only briefly during the stopover period in spring and fall.  Three male birds visited the backyard of our Coquitlam home for just a few days in late May, feeding on the ground under the feeder and singing their love song, “oh my dear me”, before heading for north to breed.
