The History of the Banjo
Types of banjos
I teach 1:1 lessons at my home in the Waitakere Ranges 20 mins from Auckland City. I teach on Mondays and Wednesdays either during the day (good for homeschoolers, retired or shiftworkers) or in the evening.
Here is what I teach:

- Banjo -

4 String Banjo
The plectrum banjo is a rhythm instrument used for Dixieland jazz. It is strummed with a pick. I would start you off on the basic chords and strumming on easy songs then move up the neck and introduce some more sophisticated right hand patterns. Tuning CGBD or DGBD. I'll provide all the material.

5 String Banjo
The 5 String is used a lot for bluegrass but is great for Celtic, blues, country, you name it. It is a lead instrument played with a plastic thumb pick and two metal fingerpicks. Tuning is gDGBD. Check out my new 6 string solid body electric!! Examples of bluegrass music - The Beverley Hillbillies, The Theme from Deliverance. I'll provide all the material.
