Upon demand, I have started a word of the week. (A word of the day would take just a little too much effort.) However, I will not be in town most of the summer, so the word is not likely to get changed every week, or even every month. Sorry! So here is this week's/month's word:

Parsimonious - adj, frugal to the point of stinginess
omnipotent - adj, having unlimited or universal power, authority, or force; all-powerful
omniscient (I know this is a lot like the one above, but it's still a cool meaning) - having total knowledge; knowing everything; all knowing
Teetotaler - n, a person who completely abstains from alchoholic liquors
smurf - (it's a little unorthodox, but just wait for the definition) a noun, verb, or adjective, meaning anything you want it to mean. Ex. (I don't usually give examples, but this is a special case.) The girl smurfed the man with a smurf in the back of a dark alley. Meaning: The girl stabbed the man with a knife in the back of a dark alley.
unorthodox - adj, breaking with convention or tradition
extirpate - v, to destroy completely, to cut out by surgery
hoyden - n, a girl or woman of saucy, boisterous, or carefree behavior
lachrymose - adj, tearful, mournful
slattern - n, an untidy, slovenly woman, slut
sophomoric - adj, conceited; over confident of knowledge but poorly informed; immature
harangue - n, a ranting speech or peice of writing
Eidetic - adj, especially vivid but unreal
Syzygy - n, 1. the configuration of the sun, the moon, and the earth lying in a straight line 2. the combining of two feet into a single metrical unit
