Welcome to this website dedicated to the discussion of the portrayal of archaeology and of archaeologists in motion pictures. Specific film study is often hindered by the
availability of sources unless it is a popular topic such as gender and ethnicity in motion pictures. Websites are often the only source of material so writing an extended piece of work on archaeology and archaeologists in motion pictures is a task which begins with problems. Nonetheless, this website aims to give an introduction to the topic and to give a starting point for further study into archaeology in films as well as film studies and archaeology in general.

Archaeology has often been portrayed in motion pictures and, it seems, has again become popular in recent years with the advent of the Indiana Jones Trilogy, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and the two recent ‘Mummy’ films. Are these depictions of archaeology and archaeologists relevant and accurate to the real profession? This is what this site aims to find out.
