Fishing Quobba, June 2001 |
This is where the sealed road ends as you reach the Quobba coast. The roads here on are unsealed but well maintained. |
The turnoff for Quobba is 24km north of Carnarvon, Western Australia. Quobba has to be one of the most amazing places I have ever been to. Everything is on the grand scale. Waves, whales, sharks, manta rays, cliffs, and (most importantly) fish, are all spectacular. The five of us set out at 4am on Saturday the 16th June, 2001 from our home in Perth for a 2 week trip. The drive up to Quobba is fairly long. We didn't ariive till about 4.30pm. It took us a bit longer than expected due to a few minor difficulties with the old Land Cruiser. I can hardly complain about the journey. I think that I was probably awake for about 2 hours in all!! The '98 Holden Jackaroo has a very comfy back seat...I recommend it! We travelled well equipped with a tuckerbox (chest freezer that opens at top) and 4 Engels (portable car fridge/freezer...sorry, have to translate for the UK friends and relatives). We managed to run these off a Honda 1000W Generator which coped with the load no worries at all. We even managed to hook up and run an electric frying pan off it, which was quite impressive for the little fella. Of course we also had heaps of fishing equpiment and the largest of the Engels was devoted solely to bait. During our trip we stayed at Quobba Station. They have self-contained chalets and also powered and non-powered camp sites. Information for them can be found at their website. |

Contact Me: I wanted to make this website for my friends and family overseas so that they could see where I went on holiday. The images are low quality so that they download fast. If they are really crap I am sure that Guy will let me know!! If you want to add anything about Quobba or have any suggestions about the site e-mail me. |
