Yes it does make a difference how you hold the aircraft, particularly when you are launching for the first time. Your fingers actually provide a little extra lift
You dont have to "throw" the aircraft, as a matter of fact, if you dont quite have the cg correct, it may cause the plane to stall before you can get control.

Two or Three steps and toss it. I use a brisk walk not run.
Never launch with power on. Let the Aircraft develop a little airspeed before adding power. If the Trim or CG is off, you could send it crashing to the ground under power. The less wrinkles in the tape the better. I keep a thumb on the control stick in case it needs a little up.
