Let's talk about
Hunting!
Hi! I'm Joan Youngman. I love hunting, fishing, camping, and generally hanging out at the acreage or in the bush.

Just nothing like a good story.
Getting the first moose... Featured Tip:
It was a warm fall day with the smell of earthy vegetation and a hint of snow in the air.... I was out walking on the cutlines near Cynthia, Alberta and the air was thick with grouse flapping between the trees.  Small potatoes compared to the moose I was really looking for.

A white bronco came careening around the corner up ahead.  It was my spouse in a seemingly big hurry.  "Jump in, there's a moose down the cutline"... we raced off to the site.

Yuppers, 180 yards or so, there he was - head on, front shot.  I got him in my open sites and steadied the gun, breathing and praying "Dear God, please guide this bullet, cuz I can't hit the broad side of a barn at this distance!"  Blam.  Hmm, must have missed.  Blam... moose looking at me (snickering).  What the heck?  Blam... moose turns sideways... blam another shot to the heart area... still hasn't fallen down... turns back to head on shot... blam.  Drops dead.  Shot him in the chest and it musta exited out the rear end.  Five shots!  tough moose, or bad aim?

I start running down the swampy cut line... oop, my string broke for my sweat pants... starting to fall down... yank them up with one hand... waving the rifle in the other hand... running down the cut line hollering for hubby to follow me.  Nearly lost a rubber boot... kept running...

Bullwinkle was quite dead.  Moose stew tonight rather than the usual track soup!  Yummy.  A successful hunt.

Prayer to the Creator for his goodness to our family.
*  Don't wear sweat pants with an old string.
*  Knock the moose down on the first shot.
