TRIP OF THOUSANDS OF YEARS...

                            The ancient world...

My name is Juan José Castillos, I am the Director of the Uruguayan Institute of Egyptology and I will refer you to some very interesting webpages where you will discover how a group of people in a small country are trying to contribute to a better knowledge of one of the most ancient and wonderful civilizations in the history of mankind.

In the last few decades new approaches to the archaeological work itself and to the interpretation of the results obtained by the archaeologists, have led to a better understanding of ancient people, their way of life, their social structure, their beliefs, their economy, their development from the uncertainties of prehistoric nomadic life to the relative comfort and security of a sedentary existence.

What seemed to be the privilege of a few rich countries which could afford to carry out archaeological projects in order to bring to light fresh evidence on the subject, is spreading to other areas of the world where people, with infinitely less resources but with great determination and a desire to contribute to the common goal, are doing research analyzing the new evidence.

Because most people are too busy earning their living and have little time to find out about these endeavours, why the work is being done and what it means for the average man and woman in terms of providing us with a global identity as citizens of the planet Earth rather than as people from one or other country, it is necessary to go to the general public and convey to them the reasons for all this work. Otherwise, every time we go to the government or elsewhere to ask for funds few people will find it worthwhile.

If you would like to know what we are doing, what we have accomplished so far, what are our goals and hopes for the future, please visit our following webpages:

NOTE - If at any time you click to visit any of our pages and it gives you a message that it is temporarily unavailable, this is due to a limit Geocities puts on daily traffic on its free webpages, so if you try again later or the next day, you should have no trouble to see it.

Likewise, if you try to visit one of our pages and Geocities reports it is "inactive", it's because they do that now if it has no visits for a few days, in that case send me an email to the address given below and I will reactivate it at once.

A decision by Yahoo Geocities to cease hosting these free webpages has been published as follows:

"GeoCities is closing on October 26, 2009. On October 26, 2009, your GeoCities site will no longer appear on the Web, and you will no longer be able to access your GeoCities account and files."

This will cause the disappearance from the web of our more than 100 pages including articles, essays, various kinds of information about ancient Egypt, that over 10 years now have satisfied the curiosity or the needs of hundreds of thousands of people from more than 100 countries.

We regret this unfortunate decision that reduces the cultural content of internet as people unable to pay for their hosting must see the results of their efforts vanish from the web. We thank you anyway for your continued interest in our pages and suggest that if you disagree with this decision, write to Yahoo Geocities to make them aware of your opinion, perhaps the only way such a decision could be reversed.

THIS PAGE HAS ALREADY HAD   Counter   VISITORS FROM ABOUT ONE HUNDRED COUNTRIES SO FAR. THANK YOU, COME AGAIN WHENEVER YOU WISH !

(PAGE FIRST PUBLISHED IN MAY 1998)

We thank the visitors who have kindly suggested that we improve the appearance of this page, incorporating frames with Java, as many others do, with very appealing results, and other minor modifications, like eliminating the explicit urls we give as links for each of our other pages, but there is a reason for all this. First, by keeping the web design simple, without frames, we make them accessible to people using very old computers and programs, enabling absolutely anybody to be able to visit them, even if they are using browsers like Internet Explorer 2.0 or similar, and we like to be explicit about the urls so people who wish to paste them to their own pages or files, can easily do so by marking and copying them, with just a touch of the mouse. Thank you again anyway for your interest in our pages.
