The Toney Family

The Toney  name was origionally  vikings, which started out from Norway under Rollo, who raided the coast of France.  Rollo finally made peace with Charles the Simple King of France. King Charles gave Rollo a tract of land along the River Seine, between the Epte and Eure Rivers.  Rollo took the title Duke of Normandy.

Accompanying Rollo was Malahulcius who was Rollo's nephew.  Malahulcius is also listed under the names of  Malahulc and Hulc.  Rollo had a son Hugh de Calvacamp  born about 870, who was one of the first to take a surname.  Hugh had two son's that we know of Hugh and Ralph De Tonei,  I born about 900 to 910.

Ralph De Tonei was given land by his brother Hugh who was made Archbishop of Rouen.  The lands included the town of Tosny in Gaillon, and arrondissement of Louviers, Normandy.

Ralph De Tonei I,  also had a son he named Ralph born about 940.
