I searched in vain for a good Fort Monroe website so I made one of my own. I know this is unworthy of such a grand and historic Americian fortification but, at least, its better than nothing.

Official Fort Monroe Homepage is America's largest fort and has been garrisoned by the Army continously for over 150 years. Unfortunately, this official site has almost no historical information on the fort.

The Lincoln Gun at Fort Monroe

Civil War Artillery at Fort Monroe Fort Monroe is blessed to have a large selection of historic artillery pieces on hand. Chief among these is the "Lincoln Gun" which was the first 15-inch Rodman Columbiad made for the U.S. Army. This was the largest piece of artillery in production during the Civil War.

Casemate Quarters at Fort Monroe In the 1800's many officers lived with their families in the casemates at Fort Monroe. This picture is the only picture known to the author of an officer's casemate quarters.
