Hello! I am an instructor of liberal arts at Stratford University, a small private university in Northern Virginia. Here I teach classes in ethics, general science, and the history of food and culture. After earning a B.A. in Religion and an  M.S. in Environmental Engineering Science at the University of Florida, I began my professional as a radiation safety officer at a university research hospital. Eventually I went back to graduate school  to earn an M.A. in Religion from Florida State University and an M.A. in American Religious History from the University of Virginia. While in graduate school I worked as a manager of the Saint Francis House, an interfaith shelter for the homeless in Gainesville, Florida, and later I served as an Editorial Assistant for M.I.T. Press.

Originally I trained to be an environmental scientist specializing in environmental biology and toxicology. Later on I also became interested in the religious studies, particularly in regard to religion in society and also new religious movements.  Currently I am an editor of the scholarly journal Nova Religio: The Journal of Alternative and Emergent Religions.

When not teaching or conducting research, I enjoy photography and attending an occasional renaissance faire or science fiction convention.
