These are techniques I have used as a professional painter showing spraying and hand tool use. I have been paint contracting part time since '75 and felt there wasn't enough sites like this so being the gas bag that I am thought this might be helpfull. I hope the information is expressed with enough clarity and some benefit results. Good painting .........Jeff |

My philosophy on painting; when doing interiors it is all about athetics. Other than protecting the walls from water penetration in kitchens and bathrooms, paints purpose is to please the eye, make things look clean, or add a mood with color, texture or faux patterns. When doing exteriors, a good paint job will protect and lengthen the life of your house. A new roof looks nice but come winter if it leaks, fixing it will be the only thing that matters. A paint job "leaks" also if the joints and holes where pipes enter are'nt caulked and sealed. So prep work is the important time consuming job for painting. The application of primer and paint is the easy part. It is easy to spray a finish on but if it isn't sealed and rolled out to get into every crack, and primer(if neccessary) isn't applied then it is like a leaky roof. The job will look nice but won't last and water will enter and cause dry rot, etc. It is a nice feeling to see your living space painted in a way that makes you enjoy being there. For a little effort and a few dollars it is possible to engage in creation and keep decay at bay. I love to paint and hope everyone would enjoy painting as I do. |
