Let's Have Some Fun!

by Ania aka *Grace*

This story is an alternative version of what happened during Jack and Jennifer's trip to Atlantic City. It starts when Jennifer tries to talk Jack into going somewhere and having some fun.

Jennifer: Oh come on, Jack, I know we’re here for business but we can have some fun along the way too, can’t we?

Jack: Jennifer, I don’t know…

Jennifer: Please… I mean it’s not everyday that you are in Atlantic City… I mean at least not for me…

Jack (seeing the sad expression on Jennifer’s face): Alright, alright, we’ll go and have some fun… But what would you like to do?

Jenifer: I don’t know… You’re the boss here.

Jack: OK, let me think. (Jack thinks for a while) I got it! Bowling! Have you ever been bowling?

Jenifer: Two or three times in a lifetime I guess… I was fun.

Jack (smiling): Geat! Then we’re gonna go bowling!

Jennifer: Really?

Jack: And do I look like I was kidding?

Jennifer: I guess not… Just give me a few minutes to get ready.

Jack: OK.

Jennifer goes to her room and after a while she comes back dresed in black trousers and red blouse. Jack also changed his outfit.

Jennifer: OK, I am ready, we can go now.

Jack: Great, let’s go.

Jack smiles and they leave. Jack calls for a cab and after about 15 minutes they reach the bowling center Jack was talking about. They get out and Jack pays the driver.

Jack: Looks like we’re here.

Jennifer: Jack, I can’t believe we’re doing this.

Jack: Doing what?

Jennifer: THIS. Everything. I mean firs the casino and now bowling… This is almost like a…

Jack: Like what?

Jennifer: Nothing, nothing… I just had this stupid idea…

Jack: Jennifer, this is not a date or anything…

Jennifer (confused, as it is exactly what she thought): I know, I know…

Jack: Jennifer, you wanted to have some fun abd I’m taking you out… That’s it…

Jennifer (a bit disappointed): I know..

Jack (pointing at the bowling center): Shall we?

Jennifer: Yes, we shall.

They go inside and are shown their track.

Jack: So I guess I don’t have to show you how it’s done, huh?

Jennifer: No, you don’t.

Jennifer smiles skittishly and they start to play. Jennifer wins the first round.

Jack: Are you sure you went bowling only a few times in your life?

Jennifer: That’s right.

Jack: We should call it the beginner’s luck then, huh?

Jennifer (smiles): Maybe… Or maybe I’m just good.

Jack: I wish! I’ll beat you in the next round.

Jennifer: We’ll see, we’ll see…

They play another round and Jennifer wins again.

jennifer: You still wanna call it the beginner’s luck?

Jack: Of course. What else should I call it?

Jennifer: Talent maybe?

Jack: Maybe… But we’ll see in the next round.

They play and Jennifer wins one more time.

Jennifer (screaming and almost jumping): I did it! I did it!

Jack: That’s… That’s enough… I’ve had enough…

Jennifer: Oh come on Jack, you’re not going to give up now, are you?

Jack: Oh yes, that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

Jennifer (kind of enjoying the moment): You’re scared of me, Jack Deveraux.

Jack: I am not.

Jennifer: yes you are. I you weren’t, you would play again.

Jack: I’m just tired.

Jennifer: Yeah right. You’re scared! Scared! Scared!

Jack: OK, OK, I give up. I’m scared of you, Jennifer Horton. I don’t like the idea of my female employee beating me again.

Jennifer (smiles): I knew it, I knew it. You know Jack, you are such a macho type!

Jack: Oh thank you very much, I really appreciate your comment, Jennifer.

For a second they stare at each other emmotionally and suddenly Jack wraps his arm sround Jennifer.

Jack: You deserved a drink. Come on.

Jack leads jennifer to one of the tables and they sit down. Jack orders a bottle of champagne.

Jennifer: What are we celebrating?

Jack: Your… your vistory.

Jennifer (smiling from ear to ear): Thank youm Jack.

Jack: For what?

Jennifer: For everything. For this night…

Jack: For letting you win…

Jennifer (resentful): YOU DID NOT!!!!

Jack: Yes I did.

Jennifer: You were saying just the opposite a few minutes ago.

Jack: Well I was lying.

Jennifer (kicking him under the table): You were not!

Jack (laughing): OK, OK, I didn’t let you win.

Jennifer (with victory in her voice): I was better!  I was, Jack!

Jack: Is it really that important for you? This whole bowling thing?

Jennifer: It’s not, but I love arguing with you.

Jack: You do?

Jennifer (thinks): I don’t. (she speaks up) I do.

They look at each other emotionally once again during the evening, not being sure what to say now. For a moment they get lost in each other’s eyes. Finally jack ends the awkward stuation.

Jack (looking at his watch): Well, we’d better go, it’s getting late.

Jennifer (pretending to agree with him): Yeah, you’re right… We’d better go…

They drink the champagne, Jack pays for it and they leave.

***

In Jennifer’s room…

Jack: I guess this is it.

Jennifer (a bit disappointed): Yeah, I guess.

Jack and Jennifer together: I wanted…

Jack (laughing): You go first.

Jennifer (not being sure whether she really should say it): Well OK… Look, I just wanted to say that I had a great time today…

Jack (having hard time admitting it): Yeah, me too.

Jennifer: I know I said this befire but thank you, Jack. For taking me here. For this wonderful night and…

Jack: Look Jennifer, I don’t want you to get the wrong impression…

Jennifer (sad and disappointed): I didn’t. It was just a business trip and we had some good time, that’s all.

Jack (knowing that it’s not true): Right, right… That’s exactly what it was.

Jennifer: But stil it was nice.

Jack: It was… (Jack starts nervously looking around the room) Well, I’d better be going…

Jennifer (saying not really what she wants to say): Yeah…

Jack looks at Jennifer tenderly and for a moment Jennifer hopes that he won’t be able to fight the passion between the two of them. He leans forward as if to kiss her. He moves his lips closer to hers and she waits with her heart beating fast what he’s going to do. She prays that he would kiss her the way she wanted him to all night. But instead he places a gentle kiss on her cheek.

Jack: Goodnight Jennifer.

Jannifer (whispering): Goodnight Jack…

Jack once again looks into Jennifer’s eyes and leaves her room.

Jennifer (sighs and leans against the wall): Oh Jack, I know that you want me just as much as I want you, but you’re just too scared to admit it… But one day… One day you’re gonna be ready and I will be waiting for you… I promise.
