| I now know that to bag a big buck, you got to be either a great hunter, dang lucky, or both, and I'm out. I did have my chance for a real nice one. I had just corned a road and left the Jeep hanging half way out so I could shoot off the hood. A nice one comes out at the very end, a quarter mile away, that's 450yds!!!!! I'm sure this fellow heard me drive off and a free lunch was to be had. I have made numerous 300yd shots from the stand, so I was confident, but what I didn't know was how much the bullet drops at that range. 3 feet at 500yds and I just aimed 8 inches high, so it probably went right under him. If I ever thought I would be making shots at this range, I might have checked into the down ward sprial of a 7mm mag. I did judge the distance right, so it will be just a matter of getting the height right. Can't wait till next time to use my new found knowledge and I know I can make these shots!!!! |
