"The Shadow Beast"
By: Jamie Lauren Wyrick (Monday, January 17, 2000)

Tears wash over heartache,
A heart broken with sadness and with pain.
The emptiness I feel inside makes me think
the time is almost due,
And the sadness is almost through.

I'll leave them with my memories of what should have been,
For unfulfilled memories are all I have.
My life could once have been happiness,
if only I could have followed my heart,
happiness would have been with me today.
But do I have the strength to face the fact,
this can be my one and only chance,
to find peace and happiness at last?

My world is crashing down,
it lays there at my feet;
My constant companion,
the Shadow Beast that seeks those with hope lost,
the Shadow Beast's mournful cry wails clearly in my ears.
The Shadow Beast that forever hungers,
that devours all in his ravenous feast.
I spend all my nights crying,
And my bleak days in a trance,
while the Shadow Beast circles round,
moving nearer in anticipation for the banquet spread,
and it cries its mournful sound.

Is there one that will look me in the eyes,
and say it isn't so?
That there is still hope,
for what is going on.
For I've come to the time where nothing
makes any sense,
and my wanting to keep on living,
seems to become less and less.

The reason I had for living,
this reason I once had,
it was the reason for it all,
I can't explain what's going on,
I feel my soul's been shaken,
bruised, bleeding, and torn.
All these things I went through,
I lost the only thing I had,
though this 'truth' remains,
Do I have the strength to face the fact,
this can be my one and only chance
to find peace and happiness at last?
