In Their Own Words - Crossing the Line

Harm    Mac    AJ    Bud    Harriet    Skates    Captain Boone

Lieutenant Commander Harmon Rabb, Jr.

By Jo (jhuppcla@knox.net)

I enjoy every opportunity to visit a carrier, but since I've been in JAG, these opportunities always come under the worst circumstances. I just can't believe Captain Boone would do something like this. Not because he was my father's wingman, but because of my experience with him. I've flown with the CAG, and he didn't seem to have any sort of problem with Lieutenant Puller. But he can be a little rough. Maybe Lieutenant Isaaks is over-reacting; the 'Crossing the Line' ceremony is humiliating, but the CAG wouldn't be involving in it.

The Lieutenant's case is full of events and actions that could easily be incidents of misunderstanding. Not the comment about wetting her pants, but she claims the CAG congratulated Master Chief Sullivan after the ceremony for giving her a hard time. Since there is no other side to the story (we have yet to interview Captain Boone), there is no way of knowing if her story is true, or if she is twisting events with a sort of persecution delusion.

I just don't think the CAG did anything wrong. He grounded a sub-standard pilot and she thinks it's personal.

Remind me not to get on Mac's bad side! The look she gave Master Chief Sullivan after he quoted Admiral Nimitz was lethal. But he had a point; the Navy is the success it is today because of the adherence to the time-honored traditions.

And now Lieutenant Issacs is questioning the investigation. Like Captain Boone said, his order for command was put on hold and we flew six thousand miles for her to say 'never mind, I was wrong?' I think her only interest is her flight status, which I personally believe should remain as 'grounded.'

And I have to say, I'd rather Mac isn't just one of the guys. She's a lot more fun than the arm-wrestling, tattooed jarhead I pictured when the Admiral said my new partner was a marine.

Congresswoman DeLong is completely out of line for pulling strings to get Isaaks back on flight status! 'Damn near killed herself' was a good summary of her last landing. Putting her back in the cockpit is NOT going to improve the situation. And I'm hoping she was joking about the platinum blonde hair. Blonde???

Oh God. If I though putting Isaaks up was a mistake before, now it's just homicidal. A pilot of questionable skill vs. a moving deck and a night trap. This is a nightmare waiting to happen. I admire Lieutenant Hawks' forthright attitude. I hope she doesn't pay for Issacs's pride.

Disaster, debacle, tragedy. These terms cannot begin to describe the result of putting Lieutenant Isaaks back in the cockpit. A valuable aircraft was lost, but more importantly, so was a human life. Lieutenant Isaaks would still be alive had Congresswoman DeLong not pulled strings. Lieutenant Hawks almost lost her life as well, but she will survive to fly another day.

Bud and Ensign Sims, what next? I'm sure Mac would despair at my lack of romantic empathy, but it's just amusing to see Bud with a girl. Bud is a fine officer and a good friend, but he come off as . . . less than eloquent. Now I'll bite my tongue and say they do make an interesting couple. I wish them happiness.
