EOP policy

Recently, new administration has been encouraging schools including universities to make English-only courses. So, most of schools are investing their budget in improving their facilities in order to foster their students to become more familiar with English. As such, their try-outs of making English-only courses would create advantages that outweigh shortages.
Some of students would probably worry that they might forget their national identity by being overly exposed to English-only courses. On contrary, the idea that they would forget their national identity seems ridiculous. Students in Hanyang University do not stay in their school all day. Since they also interact with their family members or friends, they wouldnĄŻt forget where they belong to by just taking few English-only classes. In addition, their values like national identity that have been created or taught over many years cannot be changed in just a short period of time even they are exposed to other nationsĄŻ languages.
Taking English-only courses would enable students to adapt to the new environment especially when they study or work abroad after graduating university. The experience of studying in English for at least four years would make huge difference between those who take English-only courses and those who does not in the future. According to the statistics shown by Michigan University Research Center, about 56 percent of foreign graduate school students have encountered difficulties in understanding professorsĄŻ lectures and reading books written in English. This research displays the importance of pre-experiencing English-only courses.
Due to the fact that English-only courses would not affect oneĄŻs national negatively and it would be beneficial for students in the future, providing those courses and better facilities should be considered as investment of Ą°generatingĄą competitive human resources. Although there could be some sacrifices for revolutionizing educational system, it is significant for students to acknowledge the fact that they are stepping further towards international stage.
