MOST OF THESE CHARACTERS ARE NOT MINE

Smiffy, Sam and Nick sat at the front of the morning meeting, there was a reason for their current position.
“Right everyone this our new probationer Angel, you are to look after her and no pranks this time.” Nick Klein looked down at the ground as Roz and Ben smiled smugly at him. June was taking this very seriously this time.
“Angel, you are with Smiffy for today OK?” Smiffy rolled his eyes.
“Just my luck, hope she’s not as dippy as she looks.”
Nick glared at him. “Personally I wouldn’t mind being in your position, spending all day with her.”
“Yeah, if....”
“Hi....Smiffy?” Angel smiled tucking an out of place strand of her shiny blonde hair back behind her ear.
“Yeah, thats me shall we get on wif it then?” Smiffy walked off towards the vehicle bay. Angel followed closely behind him.
“Don’t worry about him, hes always like that.” Vicky warned Angel quietly out of Smiffy’s earshot.
“Thats OK I’ll get used to him.” Angel smiled again and got into the car.

They drove around until the radio broke the silence between them. “Disturbance reported, 64 Rothesay road.” Smiffy answered quickly and turned the car around shooting in the direction of the incident.
“Looking forward to a bit of action then?”
“Yeah, I suppose I am.”
“Good.”

Angel waited behind Smiffy while he rapped on door 64 of Rothesay road. “Come on.” The door opened slamming into Smiffy pushing him to the ground he turned around expecting to see Angel lying on the ground whimpering. He got a surprise. “So Smiffy, shall I take him to the car?” The man was lying face against the ground Angel had straddled him to handcuff him and was now pulling him to his feet roughly.

After bringing the man in and leaving him at the station Smiffy and Angel headed back to the car. “So where are you from then?” asked a rarely impressed Smiffy.
“South London. I’ve learnt to look after myself.”
“I can relate to that, you did a bloody fine job.”
“Thanks. You thought I was going to be useless didn’t you?”
Smiffy looked down not sure what to say.
“Looks can be decieving can’t they Smif?”
There was silence again until a radio call came through. “844”
“844 receiving”
“Can you come back in?”
“Why?”
“Just come back in.”
“On way.”
Smiffy put the radio down and gave Angel a confused sideways glance. “I don’t know whats going on now.”

As they got out of the panda in front of the station Boyden was waiting for them, he winked at Angel and then turned to Smiffy. “Can I have a word? In private?”
Smiffy turned back to Angel. “I’ll meet you later in the canteen or something?”
“Yeah sure.”

Smiffy followed Boyden up to CID and stopped at Geoff Daly’s desk. “Alright Smiffy?”
“Yeah, what do you want me for?”
“Well we’re well aware of how well you did last time you were undercover and were hoping you’d like to be involved in a drugs bust later tonight. Do you know anyone else that might be up for it?”

Angel sat beside Smiffy in his red Ford Escort as he whizzed along the road to the large warehouse which was to be the setting of the evening’s dangerous events.
“Angel?” Smiffy sounded embarrassed.
“Yeah.”
“Erm, I woz just finkin. Erm, ave you got someone?”
“Actually no but sorry, I don’t ‘date’ the people I work with it gets too messy.”
“Oh right yeah of course.” Smiffy’s respect level for Angel grew significantely.
Angel smiled to herself and looked out of the window concentrating on what she would have to do that night.

As they pulled up Boyden ran up to make sure everything was going well.
“Just make sure you stay in the car until I guve the warning OK.”
“Yes sarge.” They answered together.

A large white van stopped a short distance in front of them, another car came lterally seconds later and deals were done and a large plastic bag containing white powder- probably heroin according to Smiffy- was passed over. The radio call came through just as the van was about to leave. “Right all units go go go.”
Smiffy jumped out of the car and ran to were a very confused man, or drug dealer, stood and grabbed him pulling him to the ground where another four officers helped to stop his struggle.
“Oi, Smif”
He turned around at the sound of his name to see one of the guys he and Jake had sold drugs to during his undercover operation. The man was holding a gun pointed straight at Smiffy’s head his eyes were twisted into little menacing beacons of pure evil.
“So we meet again.” Smiffy edged forward.
“Don’t do that mate I’m not scared to use it.”
“Come on, you wouldn’t have gone down if you hadn’t of brought that out.”
“Don’t get smart, I’ll shoot.”
“Go on then try it.” Smiffy regretted his words as the gun went off his life appeared flashing rhythmically before his eyes. A large object landed on Smiffy and he dropped to the floor expecting the first pains of being shot to appear any time soon but they didn’t. He opened his eyes to see Angel lying on top of him. She had taken his bullet and was now taking her last breaths.
“No!” Smiffy cradled the dying girl in his arms until all was silent.
