Before I say anything else, let me tell you that I love you. I love you more than I ever would have thought it possible to love anyone. But I was wrong about that, and you have no idea how happy that makes me. Even if I die tomorrow, even if this is our last night together, I would rather be in love with you and die than live without understanding what love is.
You saved me, Hermione, saved me from a world of pain and hatred I was too blinded by to find my own way out of. Words can't express how much that means to me. Before I fell in love with you I was just a soldier, one of a hundred identical soldiers whose sole reason to exist was to serve others. Now I'm a real person, and I can decide for myself why I exist.
The reason I exist is you.
As I write this I'm watching you sleep. You have no idea how much I love to watch you sleep. In sleep you look peaceful, contented, completely happy. I've never seen you look like that when you're awake, because the world is cruel and always gives us reasons to feel that it is less than perfect. Even if we defeat Voldemort tomorrow there will be reasons to be unhappy, but you've taught me that good is everywhere. Remember everything you've taught me, Hermione, and teach it to yourself, because all the things I learn from you are worth knowing and doing. Be happy.
If you're reading this letter, it means that I'm dead, and tonight will be the last time I hold you in my arms. But if you're reading this letter, it means that you're alive. Please stay alive, Hermione, and I don't mean just physically. You have to stay strong for me. Just because you can't see me doesn't mean I'm not here. I still exist, and all because of you.
