                     When We See That City

Though the cities of this world may crumble around us and fall,
The hope of mankind is not lost, for this world is not all;
God's building a city, eternal, it's beauty untold,
A hope for the future,  a promise from prophets of old.

Chorus:  For all that is done in His will, to His glory will stand,
             Built on the Rock of all ages, and never on sand;
             And when we see that city, all of crystal, pure gold,
                          and rare gemstone,
             We will know that He built it, using our hands as His own.

Twelve who walked Galilee's dusty roads with their Lord long ago
Were laying foundations for more than they ever could know;
And Jacob, the father, whom God renamed Israel, great,
Will find his sons' names carved, forever, one over each gate.

Chorus:  For all that is done in His pow'r, to His glory will stand,
             Built on the Rock of all ages, and never on sand;
             And when we see that city, all of crystal, pure gold,
                          and rare gemstone,
             We will know that He built it, using our hands as His own.

For He lives in the dreams of our hearts, and the toil of our hands,
To will and to do of His ongoing creative plans;
And we are a city, a light for all nations to see;
But God is still building the city that one day will be.

Chorus and Ending:
             For all that is done in His love, to His glory will stand,
             Built on the Rock of all ages, and never on sand;
             And when we see that city, all of crystal, pure gold,
                          and rare gemstone...
             When we see that city,  We will know that He built it,
              using our hands as His own.
