| At the beginning... The first human on this earth were practicing paganism.Imagine for a few second , no technology, no phones or refrigerator and no car.The only important thing is to survive and to survive we depend of the nature.That's why people honnor the nature , honnoring it for an abundant harvest or to find enough food (like a deer or rabbit).It's maybe how the concept of honnoring something or someone greater than us had start.Proof of this were found at different place .Cave painting which represent a horned man with a horse tail and half of his body as a bear. We knew differents civilisations who were practicing paganism : ancient Egypt , Rome ,Greece and the celtic world.Many country which had change polytheist for a monotheist religion .I personnally think we could never know the true reason of this changement .We can only suppose that war , conquest and other factor had bring paganism to slowly decline and mostly stay in memory of people. Below I put a brief story of what I think is maybe the beginning of monotheist.It happend in ancient Egypt and bring important question: why during many century paganism have disappear to reappear on a new form in the 20th century?Why people have decided to change their belief , by choice or by force? Ancient Egypt +- 3100 BC - +- 332 BC Ancient Egypt is know for is polytheist religion and is hundred of different god and goddess.During thousand and thousand of year , this religion work well for it's follower.During the period call the new kingdom ( 1539-1070 BC ) a new idea will appear .The king Amenhotep IV decided to change is name for Akhenaten and choose to honnor only one divinity : Aten ( the sun ).Akhenaten mean the one who serve Aten.During his reign of 17 years , he forced his people to change their belief to become a monotheist religion.As you can imagine , people wasn't happy to suddenly change their belief.They refuse to do it `temple were closed ,but they were for a time force to do what the king asked..When Akhenaten died , the religion come back to the normal and the Akhenaten stay in memory like a nightmare.Some people say today he was crazy , other say he was a genius.From this event , we learn an important thing : when a religion work very well , why would you like change it ? At the end of the dynasty of pharaohs , Egypt was conquer and change to never be a polytheist religion again.. 1300 -1700 The great witch hunt During a long period ( 1300-1700) a phenomenon had start : the witch hunt.Anyone for any reason can be accuse of witchcraft .People who were accuse were not witches but innocent people sometimes torture to say what their judge want to heard.Nine million of people and most of them were witches is a myth.Only +- 20 000 people died and they were innocent and of course they were not witches.Unfortunately , this myth continue to exist because some pagan don't take the time to read information on this period.This period was baptize the burning time , it was a time of hysteria and violence. |
