Welcome to this page. It is a collection of interesting ideas and news in the realm of "Future-Technology which could be commonplace today"

Electric bicycles would the way to go.
Norbert's great idea:  produce an all-in-one replacement front-wheel for bicycles! It has a hub-motor, NiMH-batteries, regeneration-controller, solar-panel (only one side), theft-alarm and safety-lights ... all in one unit! 28 inch for the good ol' Holland bikes.

Battery technology, particularly for Electric Vehicles (EVs)

The Vanadium Battery

(Vanadium Vanadium Redox Flow Cell) a most promising battery.
Fantastic possibilities. Click here for Norbert´s collected information.

I don't know whether this is not a hoax, but it promises to reduce emissions drastically:

The Vitalizer

I have no idea whether this really works, but since nobody has called it a scam, it must do. Amazingly it saves a lot of petrol and reduces pollution of fossil-fuel burning machines by at least 10%. It is a fairly cheap device, which is simply installed in the fuel line.

The Zinc Air Battery

As mentioned in "Technik Magazin" 5/94 (Bayrischer Rundfunk). They can be quick "recharged" by replacing the plates and the electrolyte. Has a much better power to weigth ration than lead-acid batteries. in Spring 1995 some taxis in Karlsruhe were to be run by the zinc-air battery. Contact:

The Hybrid Car

As mentioned in "Technik Magazin" 5/94 (Bayrischer Rundfunk). Ford has made a car with a 3-cyl 2-stroke diesel engine with katalytic converter. 1200cc 60kW, runs as smooth as a 6cyl 4-stroke. Also used is a water-cooled asynchronous electric motor by Siemens with a permanent power rating of 20kW and peak power of 40kW. It ways 70kg. Either or both engines can be used. The range of the electric engine is 50 kilometres.

Both engines can be used together, to give 100kW (136hp). Batteries used are Hoppecke/DAUG NiCads 200V, 7kWh, 200kg.

Acceleration to 50km/h takes 6.8s, top speed 165km/h. If both engines are used acceleration to 100km/h takes 10.8 seconds. Contact:

Latent heat storage

for fossil-fuel burning motor cars, to increase efficiency

As mentioned in "Technik Magazin" 5/94 (Bayrischer Rundfunk). The storage is done in a littel drum which is simply inserted into the coolant-circulation. Bariumhydroxide is melted at 78degC. Like a thermos it can store 600Wh over many days. Carbonhydrogen emissions were reduced by 66%, carbon monoxide emissions were reduced by 71% and the cars started far easier in icy conditions. The passenger cabin heater is warm immediately too, the iced window is thawed at once.

Also in summer the latent-heat-storage gadget saves petrol. Contact:
