Bronze Sculpture Gallery of Rare
Hindu Icons
-
The handicraft articles displayed here are cast in
solid bronze using Lost Wax process and given an antique finish. We
can also supply these statues in shinning condition. These are not usual items
and therefore are not held in inventory (stock). You may
also send a photo of an item of your interest
and we can do custom work with a reasonable cost. Large
statues as high as 5 feet can be made under special order.

The making of bronze sculpture basically
involves three steps. The form depicting the visual and spiritual
aspects of the deity is often governed by the description given in the
religious texts. For example, Siva takes the form
of Sarabeswarar depicting a combination of human, animal and bird and is a rare
one in the Chola iconography. The posture, jewelry, hairstyle, weapons,
etc., are decided at this stage. Next, the body proportions are decided
by the sculptor as per the Sirpa Sastras (text on sculpturing). Finally, a
clay model is made from which the casting is produced
using the Lost Wax (cire perdue) process. The sculptors of
Chola period have excelled in making a model with balanced proportion
and a delicate senstivity in the treatment of facial expressions.

At Indus Handicrafts, we pay attention to
the details of icon making and buyer is assured of
authentic reproduction. In the past, we have reproduced rare depictions
from the pictures sent by buyers. In such cases, we
usually discuss all aspects before the of the work. .
