We are dedicated to ending animal abandonment in Oregon.

Indigo Rescue is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)3 animal rescue group, dedicated to ending animal abandonment in our community. Based in Beaverton, Oregon and founded in 1998, the original goal was to place as many abandoned and homeless animals as possible into new homes, after treating them for numerous health and behavioral issues, and spaying or neutering them. "Within a very short time, we realized that what we were doing, was like putting your arms out to either side, and trying to hold back a tidal wave," says Heather Hines, one of the founders of Indigo. "We realized that if we were going to make a real difference, we were going to have to try to get to the heart of the problem."

Your tax-deductible donations are necessary for us to continue our work.

Our Goals

  • Launch and maintain the POP project (Pet Overpopulation Prevention), in partnership with the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter. ALL shelter animals will be spayed or neutered, onsite, prior to adoption.

  • Offer consultation to address behavioral or health concerns that often lead to abandonment.

  • Offer consultation to address how to place a rescued or surrendered animal in a permanent, responsible home.

  • Establish an Emergency Fund to assist animals with special needs who are abandoned at the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter.

  • Provide foster care and adoption for adoptable animals when the Bonnie L. Hays Small Animal Shelter can no longer house them.

  • Produce and broadcast “A Cause for Alarm,” a twice-monthly, live, call-in cable access television program featuring guests who currently advocate for animal welfare in the community.

  • Produce a quarterly newsletter that promotes our progress and needs.

  • Develop and maintain a Web site that promotes Indigo’s current activities and needs.

  • Develop a program with property managers and Washington County Sheriff’s Department to deter abandonment at rental properties and increase community awareness.
