India Post is one of the oldest and the largest postal system of World. For providing postal services, the whole country has been divided into twenty two postal circles. Each of these Circles is headed by a Chief Postmaster General. Each Circle is further divided into Regions comprising field units and Divisions (Postal RMS Divisions). Besides Circles and Regions there are other functional units like Stamp; Depots, Postal Stores Depots and Mail Motor Service, etc. |
Besides twenty Circles, there is another Circle, called Base Circle, to cater to the postal communication needs of the Armed Forces. The Base Circle is headed by an Additional Director General of rank of a Major General |
The postal services offered include registration of letters and parcels, booking of value payable letters and parcels, booking of money orders, certificate of posting, sale of stamps and postal stationary etc. Various premium services are also available at selected post offices. |
Post offices besides offering postal services, also offer banking services, speed post, money transfer services, life insurance schemes, pension payment, payment of telephone bills, electricity bills etc. as an agency function. |
Booking was open till 31 March 2005 by India Governmint Mint for 100 Rs Coin & 1 Re Coin. Hundred Rupees Coin is of Quaternary Alloy (50% silver, 40% copper, 5% Zinc and 5% Nickel), Circular in shape with 44 mm dia and weight 35 gms. One Rupee Coin is of Ferritic Stainless Steel, Circular in shape (25 mm dia.) weighing 4.8 gms |
